This Luxe Travel Hack Saves You Serious ££

One thing better than owning a boat is having a friend who does. Hear us out. Owning a boat is pretty cool (obviously), but some slightly less appealing realities come with it. Think: maintenance and mooring costs, plus the fact that you realistically couldn’t get out on the water as much as you’d like. What if we told you, though, that there’s a way you can sail whenever you want for a fraction of the price – like renting a car, but for boats? That’s where SamBoat comes in.
In Partnership With SamBoat
What’s the story?
SamBoat started when two passionate sailors, Nicolas and Laurent, spotted a problem: many boats sit unused most of the time, while plenty of people want to enjoy the sea without owning one. Their solution? Create an online platform connecting owners with renters, so anyone can book a boat anywhere in the world with just a few clicks.
Whether you’re new to sailing or experienced, you can find sailboats, catamarans or yachts that suit your style and budget, without any ownership worries.
It’s as simple as searching for a hotel or a flight, but instead, you’re organising a day or a week out on the water.
How does it work?
Booking a boat with SamBoat is a straightforward process. Start by deciding what sort of trip you’re after – whether it’s the destination, the kind of boat you want, the dates, how many people are coming, or if you’d like a skipper to handle the navigation. Then, browse the options, compare deals, and pick the one that feels right.

There’s something magical about being out on the open water, where the stresses of daily life fade away. Anytime we’ve taken the children out on a boat It’s been a chance to reconnect, to watch the kids explore and discover, and to create lasting memories together.

Top trips to book
A catamaran in Grenada
If you’re thinking about a winter getaway, hiring a catamaran in Grenada could be just the ticket. Think spacious decks and smooth sailing, all wrapped up in the kind of Caribbean sunshine that’s a proper treat when it’s grey and chilly at home. It’s the perfect excuse to unwind with friends or family, explore hidden bays, and soak up some seriously stunning scenery without the usual crowds.
A sailboat in Martinique
For the ultimate relaxed, laid-back getaway, perhaps a sailboat off the coast of Martinique is just the ticket. Experience secluded coves, discover natural grottos, or simply enjoy a leisurely lunch on deck. It’s an effortless way to soak in the island’s beauty and calm, giving a refreshing contrast to the usual winter hustle.
A luxury yacht in Saint Lucia
Sailing around Saint Lucia on a luxury yacht has ‘bucket list trip’ written all over it. Cruise alongside the vibrant shoreline with the Caribbean Sea shimmering beneath you. Whether you’re dropping the anchor out at sea or dining on deck as the sun sets over Soufrière, a yacht provides the perfect setting for indulgence and exploration.
Motor boat in Guadeloupe
What better way to see the Guadeloupe coastline than by motorboat? With the flexibility to hop between locals-only beaches, hidden sea caves, and lively bays, a motorboat trip offers maximum versatility and ease. Plus, having a nippy motor underneath your feed offers just the right amount of excitement and adrenaline.
What I love about SamBoat is how it opens up the world of sailing to everyone – turning what feels like an exclusive experience into an unforgettable adventure that everyone can enjoy.

How much does it cost?
Boat owners set their own rental prices, which vary depending on the boat’s type, size and the season. On average, renting a motorboat costs around £250 a day, excluding fuel. Sailboats are usually booked by the week, with monohulls averaging about £2,100, and catamarans closer to £3,700.
If you want a skipper, expect to pay roughly £175 per day on top of that. Fuel costs are often extra too. But if you’re going with a group of friends, the overall cost per person becomes much more reasonable, making it easier to enjoy the experience without stretching your budget. It’s a great way to get out on the water without the usual ownership costs.
