Sky’s Hectic New Crime Thriller Is One To Watch
Hot on the heels of shows like A Town Called Malice and Dreamland, Sky is working on its newest drama, and we already can’t wait.
Titled Then You Run, this miniseries is an adaptation of Zoran Drvenkar’s novel You and is set to be a British-German production. Focusing on a group of London teens, the series follows them as they set off to Rotterdam for a dream holiday, or so they thought. Expect plenty of drama and a build up of suspense to erupt…
Here’s everything we know about Then You Run
Drvenkar’s novel You was released in 2014 to critical praise, and is being adapted to screen by Ben Chanan, who created the BBC series The Capture. This new eight-part miniseries centred around four characters: Tara (Normal People’s Leah McNamara), Stink (I May Destroy You’s Vivian Oparah), Ruth (Hanna’s Yasmin Monet Prince) and Nessi (newcomer Isidora Fairhurst). Tara is the show’s main lead, and it’s her father who is found dead, apparently murdered, and the four are forced to go the run across continental Europe. The group separately concoct a plan to steal some of the cocaine from a group of gangsters. The chief among them turns out to be Tara’s uncle Regan and they soon realise they’ve made a serious mistake.
It’s not just notorious criminals that the friends have to worry about though: while they might be facing extraordinary circumstances, they still have to navigate some of the ordinary pitfalls of teenagerhood: awkward romances, drinking, a lack of money and an unwanted pregnancy.
There’s also the threat of a particularly hair raising serial killer known only as “The Traveller”, and his murderous trail seems to be gradually getting closer and closer. While Then You Run is definitely an adventurous thriller, it also has some elements of offbeat comic relief: the four young women’s hilarious relatability is the perfect antidote to the gritty absurdity of the gangster lifestyle and killing sprees peppered throughout the series” said Karen Wilson, managing director of the show’s production company Kudos.
The series has been in the works for a while, originally slated to release last year and now set to arrive on screens later in 2023.
