Move over ballet pumps; there’s a new shoe in town. Make way for the achingly chic suede loafer.

If, like me, you didn’t love the whole mesh pump movement, you will be overjoyed by this latest footwear obsession. It’s not new; it’s quite the classic, but all our fave influencers have recently stepped out in the most beautiful soft suede loafers. They lean into an old-school look yet still feel totally modern. Plus, they offer a level of comfort without compromising on style.

High-street giants M&S and Arket were at the forefront of this major trend, with the M&S loafer selling out almost immediately. But big-name designers like Miu Miu and Dior had us practically salivating for a pair. Yes, leather loafers have been around for some time, but this fervour for a suede iteration offers a softer, perhaps more feminine take. One that we can embrace as the days get warmer and, obviously, drier.

Paired with jeans, these shoes give off a collegiate, preppy vibe—similar to the boat shoe, which is also very much trending. If, again, like me, you feel the need to adopt a more grown-up look and switch out your trainers, make suede loafers your footwear of choice.
