Ever heard of tan-touring? It’s like sculpting your face with a kiss of sunshine! Instead of your usual contouring products, you use self-tanner to chisel those cheekbones, sharpen that jawline, and define your nose. Everyone from beauty TikTok-ers to celebrity tanning expert and Isle of Paradise founder Jules von Hep is raving about it. Naturally, we had to put it to the test to see what all the hype is about—and spoiler alert, it’s amazing!

What is tantouring?

Tantouring is the game-changing trick of contouring with self-tanner, giving you a semi-permanent sculpted look that lasts way longer than bronzer and highlighter. Pro spray tanners have been using this genius technique on celebs for years, especially before red carpet events, to create stunning muscle definition and sleek, sculpted limbs. Now, savvy beauty enthusiasts are bringing this magic to their faces.

How to tantour in 5 easy steps

1. Prep your skin. Cleanse and unclog pores using an exfoliating cleanser to give your skin that extra smooth and even surface. If you skin feels dry after washing, use some moisturiser, but let it settle into your skin before moving on to your tanning products.

2. Apply all-over tan to face (don’t forget your neck!) This is going to act as your base so should be lighter than the fake tan you will be using to contour.

3. Follow with a medium/dark tan to contour. Using a contour brush, pump a small amount of tan and sweep under your cheekbones to create a shadow. Build up the colour slowly; at this point, less is more. Continue down the sides of your nose from eye socket to above your nostril and the sides of your temple, then blend well.

4. Wash your hands thoroughly. Enough said!

5. Complement with makeup. Once your fake tan has dried (preferably overnight, depending on how bold you want your contour), follow with your usual bronzers, highlighters and contour sticks for even better precision and deeper contouring.
