The beloved macabre series The Addams Family is getting a new reboot on 23rd November – with this one focusing on Wednesday Addams, the only daughter in the family and one of the franchise’s most perennially popular characters.

Wednesday is in the works over at Netflix, and stars Jenna Ortega as the titular death-obsessed daughter, and is directed by Tim Burton.

The Addams Family has had many iterations since their first appearance in the 1930s, leaping from the pages of The New Yorker to the small screen with the iconic 60s series (along with the famous “they’re creepy and they’re kooky” theme song), and getting another surge in popularity in the 1990s, with a film series starring Anjelica Huston, Christopher Lloyd and Christina Ricci. Now, the first images and trailer for the new series have been finally released by Netflix.

The show sees up-and-coming actress Jenna Ortega step into the bleak shoes of Wednesday to lead the series as its main character. Luis Guzman stars as Gomez, Isaac Ordonez plays Pugsley, Victor Dorobantu plays Thing, George Burcea plays Lurch, and Catherine Zeta-Jones will play the family matriarch Morticia.

Meanwhile, Gwendoline Christie features as school principal Larissa Weems, who’s also a former classmate of Morticia’s, and also sees Christina Ricci return to the Addams Family world in an as-of-yet unannounced part.

The trailer released for the series shows the new cast in action, focusing mostly on Wednesday herself, but with glimpses of Morticia, Gomez and Gwendoline Christie as Larrisa Weems. Having had to change schools eight times throughout her life, Wednesday is sent to Nevermore Academy as a teenager, a place where she’ll be more accepted and fit in- and must navigate both new friendships, a family mystery and a monstrous killing spree. The whole series is being spearheaded by the OG gothic director himself, Tim Burton- making it likely this will be one of the best Netflix shows of 2022.
