Loved Bodyguard? Keeley Hawes Stars In New Amazon Prime Thriller The Assassin

Family drama, a beautiful Greek island and a deadly past that can’t be escaped… Amazon Prime’s new thriller The Assassin, starring Keeley Hawes, releases this month, and looks like your next binge-watch. Following a woman (Hawes) and her son (Freddie Highmore) while the violent life she once led returns to haunt her, the 6-part miniseries comes from the creators of hit series The Tourist. Here’s everything you need to know.
What is The Assassin about?

This certainly isn’t the first time Keeley Hawes has been front and centre of a pulse-pounding action thriller series, having starred in Bodyguard and Line of Duty to acclaim. She plays Julie, a woman who, on the outside, seems perfectly normal, living in a small cottage on one of Greece’s many idyllic islands. She’s hiding dark secrets, however, and her simple abode is the place she escaped to years ago when she left her behind her deadly career as a hit-woman. It’s a safe but uneasy existence- until the arrival of her estranged son, Edward, played by The Good Doctor and Bates Motel star Freddie Highmore. The pair haven’t seen each other in over four years, and the son is full of questions that the mother is reluctant to answer. Who, and where, is his father? And what is the truth behind her past life?

Unfortunately, it’s proved to Julie that no one can run forever, and trouble catches up to them. With herself and Edward now in mortal danger, she decides to flee the island and evade the forces threatening to kill her. The two go on the run across Europe and have to fight to survive, with Julie demonstrating what made her such a deadly assassin in the first place. Her unconventional, dysfunctional relationship with Freddie will be tested, too, as they bicker and fight over the questions her son so desperately wants answered. But what they uncover together as they flee proves to be a bigger and more dangerous conspiracy than they could have ever imagined.
When does the show release, and is there a trailer?

Luckily, you don’t have long to wait if you’re hooked by the premise, as The Assassin is set to debut on Amazon Prime on 25th July. Other notable cast members joining Hawes and Highmore include Gina Gershon (Riverdale), Shalom Brune-Franklin (The Tourist), Jack Davenport (Dr Death) and Alan Dale (Wreck.)
