The Curse: Emma Stone Stars In A New Comedy

In need of a good comedy that also mixes in suspenseful drama? Want something a bit different to sink your teeth into? Then The Curse, a new series coming to Paramount+ this Friday 10th, is for you.
It stars Emma Stone, whose acclaimed new film, Poor Things, is coming out early next year, and Canadian comedian Nathan Fielder (The Rehearsal). Co-written with Benny Safdie (Oppenheimer), it explores the life and relationship of a just-married couple who should be having the time of their life- only for an apparent curse to ruin their honeymoon period.
What’s The Curse about?

The Curse is the latest project from the mind of Nathan Fielder, whose parody reality show, Nathan For You, became a cult hit in the US for its oddball comedy moments and subversive (and very funny) writing. It’s safe to say you can expect more of that off-the-wall, razor-sharp wit in The Curse, especially with Benny Safdie, who directed and wrote the excellent Uncut Gems.
Emma Stone meanwhile brings her inimitable style of both drama and comedy, starring as Whitney Siegel, wife of Asher (Fielder) and co-presenter of a HGTV show with her husband. HGTV, for those of us not in the States, is the Home & Garden Television channel, which is dedicated to reality shows about home improvement and real estate. Asher and Whitney’s show is called Flipanthropy and the couple go around building eco-friendly houses to improve people’s lives and be “socially conscious.”
What else do we know?
The only trouble is, the couple might be a little bit naive and possibly a bit too convinced that they’re good people. When Asher impulsively snatches back some money he gave to a young child on camera, he finds that he and Whitney become ‘cursed’. They find themselves for example unable to conceive a child despite their best efforts and begin running into more and more problems.
Safdie also stars as Dougie, who’s part of the crew on Flipanthropy and a confidant of Asher.
The official trailer released by Showtime, the show’s network in America, doesn’t give much away but does give a glimpse at our characters. Whitney seems to be the main presenter of the real estate show, saying “This isn’t your typical home flipping show… my homes are reflecting our local communities, and we’re husband and wife… what could go wrong?”
When will it be released?
The Curse will arrive on Paramount+ in the UK on 10th November.
