We’ll already watch anything Anne Hathaway is in, and doubly so if Ewan McGregor is also starring opposite. The End of Oak Street, a new sci-fi survival film produced by JJ Abrams, features both, and follows a normal suburban family as they try to survive when their neighbourhood suddenly completely transforms. As they look for answers and try to find a way back to safety, they’ll encounter things they never could have imagined. Here’s everything you need to know:

What is The End of Oak Street about?

The End of Oak Street is set in the 1980s and follows the Platt family, who are living a seemingly ordinary suburban life in Oak Street, their very normal neighbourhood. However, a bizarre, cosmic event occurs when, following a mysterious event, their familiar street is literally ripped away from reality and transported somewhere entirely unknown — along with the Platts.

Hathaway plays mother Denise Platt, married to McGregor’s character Greg. Both parents are suddenly faced not with the day-to-day ups and downs of suburbia, but with surviving and prioritising the safety of their kids, Audrey (Maisy Stella) and Brian (Christian Convery). The twisted “new” Oak Street has been made almost unrecognisable, cracked and apparently at risk of being overrun by strange creatures, including, it seems, dinosaurs.

The first teaser trailer for the film dropped online and gives only a few scant hints about what’s going on, as the Platts try to get their heads around where they’ve ended up. “…our house, our neighbourhood, our whole street has moved…” says Hathaway’s Denise, as the family sits on the floor of their house. Getting to the bottom of what happened and how or if it can be fixed will surely be their priority as they look to survive.

The film is produced by J.J Abrams and his company Bad Robot, known for his work on sci-fi series Cloverfield, and there’s even been speculation online that The End of Oak Street could tie into that mysterious long-running franchise. Who knows!

What else do we know, and is there a release date?

The End of Oak Street is being directed by David Robert Mitchell, who’s best known for the horror movie It Follows starring Maika Monroe. It’s currently slated to arrive in cinemas on 14th August 2026, and you can watch the trailer below.
