Jenna Coleman’s New BBC Crime Drama The Jetty Starts Next Week
Jenna Coleman’s been busy lately- last year, the Doctor Who star not only led the gripping psychological thriller series Wilderness on Amazon Prime, but she also appeared opposite Oliver Jackson-Cohen in the action thriller Jackdaw. Now she’s returning to the BBC for the new crime drama series The Jetty.
Set in a Lancashire lake town, the show follows Coleman as a detective investigating the links between an arson case, a disappearance and an illicit relationship. Here’s everything you need to know:
What is The Jetty about?
In a small but scenic lake town in Lancashire, there’s more than meets the eye: Detective Ember Manning (Coleman) knows the town inside out having always called it home. However, a set of events threatens to change everything, with the detective being called to investigate a mysterious fire that’s torn through a property and causing quite a stir in the area. Meanwhile, there’s a true crime podcast journalist around who’s investigating a missing person case that has long gone cold. Further still, a man in his 20s is discovered to be having an illicit love-triangle relationship with two girls who are underage. As Ember looks into the fire case, she begins to suspect that all of these events, which seem to be separate, have a connection to each other- but it’s up to her to find it.
The official trailer begins by quickly introducing us to Detective Manning- “I’m basically a human lie detector”, she says as she talks to some of the town’s residents. Ember meets the podcaster who’s looking into the missing person case, who mentions she has a specific interest in crimes against women and girls, as well as the girls who are being abused- “he’s a predator and he needs to be stopped”. There’s also an implication that the crimes are being covered up so as not to disrupt tourism, adding an extra layer of intrigue. As Ember continues to investigate the cases and the possible links between them, she finds that everything she thought she knew about her past and the town might be very mistaken, and things begin to get personal as someone seems to be targeting her daughter.
Who’s in the cast?
Alongside Coleman in the cast is House of the Dragon’s Tom Glynn-Carney, who’s teased he’s playing a “sinister character”, Ruby Stokes (Lockwood & Co.), Archie Renaux (Romulus), Amelia Bullmore (Happy Valley) and Ralph Ineson (The Witch).
