The Revenge Club Is A Gripping New British Thriller To Watch This Christmas

We love a good book-to-film adaptation, so we’re excited to see Paramount+’s new thriller The Revenge Club, a new thriller series which is coming to the platform on 12th December- perfect for a watch over Christmas. Set around a divorcee support group, it follows six strangers who’ve bonded over their disintegrating marriages and have all decided to hatch a plan for revenge. Sound interesting? Here’s everything you need to know:
What is The Revenge Club about?
The series is based on The Othello Club, a novel by J.D. Pennington, which was published earlier this year, and is a UK-set psychological thriller. It features a few recognisable faces from across British TV: Martin Compston (Line of Duty), Aimee-Ffion Edwards (Slow Horses), Meera Syal (The Wheel of Time), Sharon Rooney (My Mad Fat Diary), Douglas Henshall (Primeval) and Chaniel Kular (Sex Education). Edwards and Compston play the lead roles of Emily and Callum, two members of a divorcees’ club seeking healing and shared experiences. As their meetings go on, however, the group that started out knowing nothing about each other begins to form an idea to take revenge on their exes.
The book sheds a bit more light on the plot (and what to expect in Paramount’s show), with Emily being the central character, who is hesitant to go along with the others’ plan to get back at their ex-spouses. They assure her the plans are “nothing too serious”, and the further she gets from her past marriage, the larger her motive becomes to take revenge. But of course, the best laid plans can go awry, and the desire for retribution can get out of hand — and soon the group finds itself entangled in a much more sinister situation than they had bargained for. When lines are crossed and things spin out of control, Emily and the rest of the divorcees find themselves in serious peril.

What else do we know, and is there a release date?
The show has yet to receive a full trailer, but the first look images offer a glimpse at the jaded lovers bonding during a meeting point in the local dimly lit pub. The Revenge Club will be six parts long, and all episodes will release together on 12th December, so you can binge through it as soon as it drops.
