If I could wear any brand for the rest of my life – with money no object – it would be The Row. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen‘s label has gone from strength to strength, recently reaching ‘unicorn’ resale status alongside luxury powerhouses, Hermes and Goyard. Famous for being a minimalist fashion brand, propagating the quiet-luxury aesthetic, these are quality pieces designed to stand the test of time.

So when the brand released a tiny, ’90s-inspired top-handle bag, I fell in love – it’s cute, polished, and classic. The only catch? The £1k+ price tag. It seems fashion folks online had a similar mindset – hunting for a more affordable version, and they found just that…

The hype online

Across Instagram and TikTok, creators have been ordering a lookalike leather bag on Amazon, and sharing their reviews online. The general consensus? It’s not quite The Row, but it’s a pretty darn good alternative, costing less than 5% of the designer price. While there’s some feedback online that the Amazon version is quite small… so is the original.

The £50 version

It was only a matter of time before I ordered the Amazon version to check it out for myself. I ordered two colours: black and ivory. My first impression is that the bag looks incredibly similar, and the real leather finish makes it feel luxe. Since December, I’ve taken both bags out to multiple dinners and parties, receiving compliments on each.

I also like how, just like the original, the Amazon bag comes complete with a longer strap you can swap in, should you want to change the bag from a top handle style, which feels more evening/occasion-worthy, to cross-body – perfect for more casual, everyday use.

For now, my only regret is not buying this bag in more colours, but otherwise, I’m very happy with it and can see myself using these baddies for many seasons to come.
