From Gucci’s opulent, Bowie-inspired two-pieces to Victoria Beckham’s zesty lime option, suits are everywhere this season, and they are anything but boring. Destined for party season rather than the boardroom, AW22’s power suit is a confidence-boosting alternative to a classic cocktail dress. We’ve handpicked our favourites that will make you feel like Superwoman all festive period.

Men have long been graced with the power of the suit; in fact, for decades, the suit was hailed as the male equivalent to the wonderbra thanks to its ability to add confidence, shape, posture, and inches. Thankfully, we’ve come a long way from needing a bra to make a woman feel powerful, but there’s something about a suit that elicits our self-confidence, especially when it comes to party dressing.

It’s the cool option for after-hours dressing for a start – look at some of the suit’s biggest celebrity champions who return to the look time and time again on the red carpet – Cate Blanchette, Janelle Monåe, Zendaya – and it no longer has to subscribe to a classic black tux or a stuffy corporate vibe, but rather a look decked out in lavish brocade, sumptuous velvet or fluid silk and adorned with everything from feather dipped sleeves to glistening sequins.

A riff on THAT Bianca Jagger white wedding look but reworked into unapologetically bold hues, we love Hebe Studio’s colour-block power suit.

From Sister Jane’s bridal collection comes this OTT bow-detail two-piece. Wear it on the big day with something blue, or throughout the holiday season with lashings of statement jewels.

If you’re looking to invest, we love Hebe Studio. The brand makes all of its suits in Italy with some of the sharpest tailoring we’ve seen in women’s suit-making, taking reference from classic menswear cuts. Our favourite? The Bianca Suit comes in unapologetically bold geranium and cyclamen hues with a cut that’s a riff on that iconic Bianca Jagger wedding look.

On the high street, Zara always delivers on affordable options – this season we love their Animal Print Suit in a relaxed satin; whilst River Island’s Silver Double Breasted option belies its humble price tag and has festive season written all over it, from cocktail parties to Christmas Day paired with a simple white tee and velvet slippers.

Speaking of, even though these high-octane looks are destined for after-hours, you don’t need to add heels to make them work. We love a power suit paired with simple white trainers, point-toe loafers, or a velvet slip-on.
