Created in partnership with Mejuri

When a brand boasts the likes of Kendall, Cara and Lizzo as fans, and has amassed a mammoth 1 million followers on Instagram, we take note. Enter, Mejuri, the Toronto-based jewellery brand ripping up the rulebook when it comes to everyday jewels. Ticking all the right boxes, from wearability to price, sustainability to craftsmanship – and a heavy dose of style – it’s the fashion editor’s favourite making some serious waves in the industry right now. Here’s everything you need to know…

The brand

From the perfect hoops to dainty diamonds and stacking rings that look as good with partywear as they do off-duty denim, Mejuri is all about jewellery you’ll want to wear every day. The brand was founded by Noura Sakkijha, a third generation jeweller frustrated that the industry was so heavily centered around men gifting women. Noura wanted to create something more realistic and so Mejuri was born, celebrating women buying pieces they will love, wear and treasure forever, but most importantly buying for themselves. Because, well, why not?

Quality and craftsmanship

Each piece in the Mejuri line is made from  real gold, either 14k solid or 18k gold vermeil, meaning it wears well and won’t tarnish like many brands do. In fact, this is jewellery designed to sweat, sleep and shower in on repeat. Plus, they always use real diamonds that are guaranteed to be ethically sourced, while their gemstones are always AAA-grade.

Everything is designed by a talented in-house team with a strict vetting process, which means each piece is passed through Mejuri’s master jewellers to ensure it has the perfect setting or length, the best-functioning claps or comfirst earring fit. No detail goes unnoticed before it’s put into production.

The Croissant Collection, inspired by Paris’ favourite carb, may be wonderfully whimsical in origin but the pieces themselves are utterly wearable.

The collections

Hero pieces include the Croissant collection, which is inspired by, yup, Paris’ favourite carb. While its origin may be wonderfully whimsical, the collection of hoops and rings is totally wearable. We love the Thin Croissant Dôme style earrings, which add a playful edge to go-with-everything hoops and the Croissant Dôme Ring that can turn a plain white tee and jeans combo into French girl chic.

Other highlights from the jewellery line are the Dôme collection. Inspired by sculpture and art, and more specifically the art-deco facade of NYC’s Chrysler building, the bold rounded rings and earrings are unique enough to make a statement but chic enough to wear with just about everything. And it’s that idea that really epitomises Mejuri – it’s all about finding beautiful pieces that you’ll want to wear every day.

And finally, say bonjour to the Charlotte collection which takes us back to France and its iconic patisseries which served as the inspiration. The collection offers a modern way to do chunky gold jewellery, whether paired with evening wear or a classic white shirt.

This is a brand dedicated to being as sustainable and responsible as possible, whether that’s supporting and giving back to the partners they work with, offering good working conditions, or sourcing recycled materials. Refreshingly, this is a brand that is transparent. In fact, by the end of 2021, they have committed to ensure 100% of their gold is traceable. 70% of the brand’s 14k solid gold products will be made with certified recycled gold and 30% will be newly mined. Pretty impressive.

Whether your style is dainty huggie hoops are more statement chunky chain necklace, each Merjuri piece feels timeless and like something you know you’re going to want to wear forever. The brand is ripping up the rulebook when it comes to what fine jewellery should be – it needn’t be reserved for special occasions, but worn every day and work seamlessly with your entire wardrobe.

Celebrity following

With a fan list that reads like the afterparty guestlist of The Met Gala, from Emily Ratajkowski to the Hadid sisters, Lizzo to Billie Eilish – just to name a few – you’d expect high-end prices to match, but Mejuri is refreshingly fairly priced with pieces starting at just £35.

The campaign imagery also serves up some serious styling inspiration thanks to supermodels Christy Turlington and Binx Walton fronting the shoots.

So how is the line so affordable? Well, they simply cut out the middleman. It’s not uncommon for jewellery brands to markup products by 10 x the actual cost of production. Mejuri does things differently. The brand has built relationships with manufacturers so they can sell products directly to you the customer, without adding unfair markups. As if we needed an excuse for some much-needed self-gifting.
