When it comes to investment pieces, you want to know that said items are working hard on the cost-per-wear front. And perhaps the priciest staple in any men’s wardrobe is the humble suit. But there isn’t just one way to style the three-piece. In fact, we argue it’s the most versatile combo around.

To that end, we caught up with Instagram style icon @‌monsieurcoupet, who re-works tailored separates like a pro, to chat about his fashion ethos, along with the many ways he reinvents his suit separates.

How would you describe your style?

“I consider my style to be effortless, chic and versatile. An era that I refer to often is the late 80s-early 90s,” explains Georges. “Most of my wardrobe’s key pieces, such as blazers and high-rise trousers, are from vintage secondhand shops. I honestly don’t know what I would do without my tailor.

“Whether brand new or thrifted, it is important to get your clothes tailored and adjusted to your personal preference – I think it adds that extra boost of confidence and makes the item truly yours.”

6 Ways To Style A Suit

1. Shorts

“In my opinion, wearing a blazer with shorts is a bold and elegant move to achieve a polished casual look. It’s fresh, comfortable and unconventional.”

2. Classic T-shirt

“For warmer weather, a plain T-shirt is a smart item to wear a suit with, depending on the settings. Worn with either dress shoes or sneakers, this look can be made to feel more elevated or laid back.”

3. Relaxed jeans

“It’s important to get the right fit when wearing jeans paired with a suit item. It will make or break the overall look. I wore flares for this outfit not only because of the moccasin shoes but also because of the tailored fit of the vest.”

4. Button-down shirt

“The button down pairing is classic, timeless and can be both worn in casual or dressy settings. It’s a great option for warm weather too.”

5. Loose shirt & trainers

“I call this one the ‘dad look’. It’s one of the easiest and most comfortable outfits for every guy I know. As a styling tip, I recommend tucking in the tee, rolling up the shirt sleeves and finishing with a belt.”

6. Mismatched separates

“Mismatched separates are a great way to give a suit more life. You get multiple outfits from that one suit as long as you keep the tones coordinated. This hack comes in especially handy when travelling.”
