The Handbook
The Handbook

While Storm Darcy might have inspired this week’s home update, a stylish blanket is one of the easiest ways to inject a touch of luxury and comfort to your living space. If you’re hibernating, you might as well do it style…

We all need a little extra comfort while living through these unprecedented times. A stylish blanket or throw offers an easy home update, as well as giving you an extra layer of warmth and comfort.

For an eye-catching and artful piece try Slow Down Studio. They are an achingly hip L.A-based initiative that collaborate with artists from around the world, transforming their artworks into rugs and blankets. You may have already spotted them in the home of a taste-maker or two on Instagram, but thankfully, they’re now available on our shores, too, via Selfridges and The Conran Shop. They also happen to be inspiring a new decorative use for woven blankets. Yes, these jacquard-woven throws can work wonders draped over a bed or a the couch, but they can also be beautifully displayed as a wall hanging or even framed as art (pictured).

There is a whole host of brands out there to choose from and they all bring their own in terms of colour, print, personality and tactility.

There are classic stripes and heritage checks, there are wool and cashmere mixes, there is subtle and statement-making, abstract and ultra-fine.

If you really still need an excuse, just disguise it as self care.  Bedding down until the storm passes with one of these cosy throws could be just the tonic you need to get you through an ice-cold week, and wet weekend.
