For two decades, America’s Next Top Model sold a glittering dream of high-fashion stardom, whereby Tyra Banks transformed countless aspiring models into household names while also embedding the show into the DNA of reality television. But today, the programme is embroiled in controversy with contemporary audiences associating it with bodyshaming and bullying. Netflix’s new tell-all documentary promises to peel back the curtain behind the ANTM phenomenon. Here is everything we know so far:

What to expect

Directed by investigative filmmakers Mor Loushy and Daniel Sivan, Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model promises a fierce reckoning of the show’s most controversial chapters spanning 2003 to 2018. The documentary is set to offer unprecedented access to the original creative team, while Banks herself also features heavily in the trailer.

From comments about the models’ weight to the racially insensitive challenges that have fueled modern social media backlash, the docuseries promises to address the show’s biggest controversies, with the cast and crew telling all for the first time.

Four stylishly dressed people pose closely together, smiling, in front of ornate carved wooden doors; their confident energy calls to mind a Netflix Next Top Model Documentary, with one person in a ruffled dress and another in bright orange attire.

Who will feature

Throughout the trailer released earlier this year, it cuts to Banks, where she confesses to taking it too far and declares that it is time she says her piece. Alongside the show’s frontwoman, interviews have also been conducted with fellow judges Jay Manuel, J.Alexandar and Nigel Barker, as well as the former executive producer Ken Mok. Some of ANTM’s most beloved winners and contestants are also set to feature, including Whitney Thompson, Giselle Samson, Tiffany Richardson and Shannon Stewart.

The show is set to hit TV screens today. It will consist of three parts and be available to stream on Netflix.
