Beyoncé’s Renaissance Concert Film Comes To Cinemas

If you’re a fan of both Taylor Swift and Beyoncé, the next few months are going to be a treat. Just days after it was recently announced that Swift’s The Eras Tour concert film will be blowing up the UK box office this month, Beyoncé dropped details and a trailer for Renaissance: A Film By Beyoncé. And the long await is over: the film lands in cinemas this Friday 1st December.
Serving as both a concert film and a behind-the-scenes documentary, fans of Queen Bey will get an inside look at how the songwriter put together the Renaissance World Tour and her rehearsals with her daughter, Blue Ivy.
What can we expect from Renaissance: A Film by Beyonce?
The Renaissance World Tour, which ended in September after becoming the highest-grossing concert tour by a female artist, supports Beyoncé’s album Renaissance. Its blend of dance and disco music and homages to Black and gay pioneers of the genres received critical acclaim and won Album of the Year at the Grammys.
The film takes us behind the scenes of how the album came to be and the inspirations behind its themes and lyrics. It also focuses on the rehearsals and build-up to the tour itself. Blue Ivy, Beyonce’s eldest child, features as a dancer in the tour on songs like “Black Parade” and “My Power”, and the film will show both mother and daughter behind the scenes together.
What else do we know?
Much like The Eras Tour concert film, Renaissance: A Film By Beyoncé will be showing in IMAX and Dolby Atmos cinemas.
The trailer gives only a few insights into what to expect (other than the music), featuring Beyoncé saying: “When I am performing, I am nothing but free. The goal for this tour is to create a place where everyone is free, and no one is judged.”
We see shots of some of the elaborate and impressive staging and costuming that the tour has become known for, as well as footage of Bey with twins Rumi and Sir. She’s also interviewed by Jay Z about her thoughts on the tour: “I feel liberated, I have transitioned into a new animal.”
When does it come to cinemas?
Beyoncé’s Renaissance is set to release in cinemas from Friday 1st December, which has been noted as the same day as World AIDS Day, symbolic of the themes of ball culture and gay rights struggles in the album.
