Everything We Know About The New Thriller Black Bag

If you love stylish spy thrillers, full of secrets and betrayal, then you should definitely be excited for the release of the new movie Black Blag, coming to cinemas next month. With a starry cast that includes Cate Blanchett (Disclaimer), Michael Fassbender (The Killer), Pierce Brosnan (The Last Rifleman) and Marisa Abela (Back To Black), it centres around a couple whose marriage is put to the test when one of them is accused of betraying their country.
What is Black Bag about?
The upcoming thriller is directed by Steven Soderberg of Ocean’s Eleven and Magic Mike fame, and whose horror movie Presence also released just last month. At its core, Black Bag is about a married couple: George Woodhouse (Fassbender) and his wife Kathryn (Blanchett), both of whom are veterans of the espionage business. But George is rocked when out of the blue he receives head-spinning news: Kathryn has (allegedly) secretly been working against Britain and has betrayed the government. He’s now been asked to do whatever he can to keep an eye on her movements and help protect the country, putting aside his personal feelings. But of course, choosing between his marriage to Kathryn and the security of the nation is a decision that George won’t find easy to make.

“You asked how it works, to be with someone in this business. This is how… you each know what you know and you know what you’ll do, and you never discuss certain things again” says George at the beginning of the film’s official trailer, as he contemplates his life and relationship with Kathryn. It soon becomes apparent that someone in their agency has leaked damaging material that could seriously harm the country’s national security, and the chief suspect is George’s wife. He’s pressed for answers by the higher-ups and told to spy on her, which she seems possibly aware of (“I can feel when you’re watching me, I like it”), and while Fassbender maintains a cool composure throughout, you can tell George is being pushed to the limit.
The trailer also gives us some glimpses of the rest of the stars of the film, with Brosnan and Abela both also playing agents who’re in the spy game, as well as Bridgerton star Regé-Jean Page. There’s also another Bond star in addition to Brosnan: Naomi Harris (No Time To Die), with Tom Burke (Furiosa) rounding out the cast. What will George choose in the hardest decision of his life? And what exactly is the mysterious “Black Bag”? You can find out yourself when the thriller releases on 14th March.
