If you love crime podcasts, (and let’s be honest, who doesn’t?), then you’ll want to tune in to Netflix’s new dark comedy thriller series, Bodkin, which drops in May.

Starring The Last Man On Earth star and Saturday Night Live alum Will Forte, it follows a group of podcasters, similar to last year’s Based on a True Story, who investigate the possibly criminal goings on in an apparently tranquil town in Ireland. The idyllic town of Bodkin experienced a series of unexplained disappearances 25 years ago – but how what secrets does it hold?

What is Bodkin about?

Will Forte stars as Gilbert Power, a podcast host from America who travels over to Ireland to try and find his Irish roots. As a keen podcaster, the story of the missing person cases from half a century ago is irresistible, and Gilbert can’t help but be drawn in. The vanishing of those in the town all those years ago occurred during the annual Samhain celebration that takes place at the end of the harvest season. He’s joined in Bodkin by Dove (The Dry’s Siobhán Cullen), who’s an investigative journalist from Dublin, as well as his trusted assistant to the podcast, Emmy (Robyn Cara).

At first, it seems like they’re only investigating an old case that simply went cold and was closed, but as they dig into what happened and establish the facts, they find that there’s more to these disappearances than they imagined. As they get in too deep, our characters find that things will get strangely dark and weird. What’s more, the series interrogates whether Glibert, Emmy and Dove are particularly moral people – after all, aren’t they exploiting criminal cases for their own gain?

What else do we know?

The twisty thriller blends genuine tension and mystery with darkly comedic elements, so you can perhaps think of it as a more intense version of Only Murders in the Building. Bodkin will run for seven episodes, releasing on streaming on 9th May, and if you can’t wait for it to arrive, then check out the official trailer below.
