The minute Bella Hadid stepped out in Cannes wearing capri trousers, she set the fashion tone for summer. Already mega, these ’90s-inspired pants are every cool girl’s fave. Check out these new-season fits for some fresh inspo…

Named after the Italian island, Capri, these viral pedal pushers ooze that Mediterranean vibe. Chic, sexy and carefree, there’s no surprise this trend has exploded. Cultural icons such as Audrey Hepburn and Brigitte Bardot elevated these simple bottoms to fashion heroes, but the current obsession – for that is what it is –  has been driven by social media.

Sometimes, when pulling together a trend piece, I struggle to find more than a handful of adopters on Instagram. Not the case with capri trousers. Everyone of those stylish folk is wearing them, even the doubters have been converted. The ever-cool @lisaingmarinelli recently shared that she’s now a fan. And, of course, she’s styling them to perfection. So you see, it really is the summer for capri trousers. I’ve picked some of my favourite looks from an army of content creators to help inspire our own.

Look 1

Love this combo. It’s super relaxed, yet cool. It’s also a love note to two other SS26 trends: the nylon jacket and pumps. Pairing a sporty jacket with softer pieces makes this fit seriously modern.

Look 2

Most of the fashion girls have stuck with black capri trousers, so I’m all for this unique look. Unsurprisingly, Zara came up trumps with this coord, in both yellow, the must-have shade of the summer, and polka dots, the biggest SS26 print trend. Triple win.

Look 3

As a woman with more blue shirts than probably necessary, this outfit was immediately saved under ‘fashion inspo’. It feels very European – laid-back, yet effortlessly chic. 100% here for this one.

Look 4

This comes under the label ‘sexy but cool’. You can’t beat a blazer, especially one from Topshop, and this one is the perfect complement to the capris and heeled flip flops.

Look 5

For those of you not ready to step out in a yellow polka-dot coord, this is the ideal alternative. Featuring the now iconic Max shirt from Sézane and pleasingly affordable Zara capri trousers, this one ticks all the style boxes. Sophisticated with personality
