If you enjoyed Netflix’s political drama The Diplomat or Sydney Sweeney’s tense one-room thriller Reality, you should definitely look out for COBRA: Rebellion, the third instalment in Sky’s COBRA series.

Arriving this Thursday, it’ll see the return of perpetually embattled Prime Minister Robert Sutherland (Robert Carlyle ) as he and his cabinet race against time to face off another threat to Britain. This time, the problem is an environmental disaster that catches everyone off guard, including the government, and the perpetrators seem to have come from within.

What is COBRA Rebellion about?

Previous series have involved a catastrophic solar flare hitting Europe and a simmering cyber-war threatening global peace. The PM is joined once again in these new episodes by his trusted chief of staff, Anna Marshall, played by The Crown star Victoria Hamilton , and his Foreign Secretary Archie Glover-Morgan (Killing Eve’s David Haig ) with whom he has a dicey relationship.

Other ministers key to the action include Home Sec Joesph Obasi (Gangs of London’s Richard Pepple ) and Shadow Environment Secretary Francine Bridge (The Bay’s Marsha Thomason ). When an unprecedented environmental disaster suddenly strikes Britain, Sutherland and his government scramble to contain it. But things don’t appear as they seem.

What else do we know?

Unlike the previous series, the trouble in COBRA: Rebellion seems to have partly come from within, and the cabinet soon realises that the threat they face is a lot closer to home.

Sky’s synopsis reveals that the crisis not only exposes the urgency of environmental destruction but also “the malignant corruption of the arms industry and the rise of shadowy corporate security firms.” Far from secure in its foreign relations, Sutherland and his advisors realise that the country might not be able to count on all its allies, and must decide on what he is willing to sacrifice to maintain his power. As the government uncovers uncomfortable and seriously damaging secrets, it looks like this series will be the most high-stakes yet.

Who else is in the cast?

Other returning cast members include Lisa Palfrey (Sex Education) as Head of the Joint Intelligence Committee, Alex Davies (Dead Pixels) as Civil Contingencies Secretariat Officer Audrey Hemmings and Lucy Cohu (Maigret) as the Prime Minister’s wife Rachel.

Meanwhile, newcomer Jane Horrocks (Absolutely Fabulous) joins as populist Defence Secretary, Victoria Dalton. Though it’s unconfirmed yet, Industry star Marisa Abela doesn’t seem to be returning as the PM’s daughter Ellie, as she’s working on that show’s third season and the Amy Winehouse biopic Back to Black.

Is there a release date?

COBRA: Rebellion is arriving on Sky Max on 12th October.
