London’s Giant David Hockney Exhibition Has Just Extended
On the hunt for a new exhibition to peruse? Well, you’re in luck as David Hockney has teamed up with a new exhibition space, Lightroom, to launch an artist-led immersive retrospective allowing visitors to delve into his iconic worlds. Due to popular demand, the exhibition has been extended to October so all the more chance to get into the mind of the art legend.
Guided through large-scale projection, David Hockey: Bigger & Closer takes its visitors on a journey through the influential sixty-year career of one of the greatest artists working today.
On display until October at King’s Cross’ brand new exhibition space, David Hockney has been directly involved in this giant immersive experience. Visitors will finally be able to delve into the mind of this inspiring artist, with the show revealing ‘his life-long fascination with the possibilities of new media’.
The exhibition directly uses Lightroom’s new enthralling space to its advantage, utilising its gaping walls and high-tech sound system to allow Hockney’s world to really come into its own. The retrospective is split into six elements, each with its own unique theme, a specially composed score by Nico Muhly, and a commentary from Hockney himself.
Lightroom explains, “His voice is in our ears as we watch him experimenting with perspective, using photography as a way of ‘drawing with a camera’, capturing the passing of time in his polaroid collages and the joy of spring on his iPad, and showing us why only paint can properly convey the hugeness of the Grand Canyon.”
This David Hockney London exhibition lasts approximately 45 minutes and sees some of his greatest works brought to life in giant form, from A Bigger Grand Canyon, 1998 to Gregory in the Swimming Pool, LA, 1982. There’s no denying the 85-year-old hasn’t had an inspiring career, so you can expect to be spanning his full sixty-year career, from LA to Yorkshire, to the present day in Normandy.
David Hockey: Bigger & Closer runs until 01.10.2023
