Somerset House just announced their summer line up and, frankly, the year and a half wait might have been worth it if it’s half as good as it sounds…

The extravaganza will include igloos, art installations, outdoor booths, bumper cars and live music, all within the stately confines of the courtyard at Somerset House.

The event may be monikered ‘Dodge’ but there’s literally nothing dodgy about the event, running from July through to August, in fact it’s likely to be one of London’s most wholesome attractions this summer.

The main event has to be the eponymous dodgems, and who doesn’t love dodgems? Dubbed Bumps Per Minute, the individual cars will be tracked using wireless technology and their random movements will be turned into a huge display of light and sound with bumping cars triggering “explosive new musical material” from Mercury Prize-shortlistee Anna Meredith along with BAFTA-winning sound artist Nick Ryan. We have no idea what this actually means, but it sounds kinda cool.

Dodgems can be paired with brunch (can’t see how that could go wrong) with cocktails and DJ sets while you enjoy unlimited rides. But incredibly they’re only part of what’s going down in the iconic courtyard.

The giant fairground will bring the culinary skills of pop-up-ist Jimmy Garcia to bear, with a specially curated menu “full of mouth-watering street food and drinks”.

The food is best enjoyed in Yinka Ilori’s booths. The British-Nigerian installation artist has created a variety of outdoor seating booths for between two and six diners.

Dodge Lates will bring a dozen different DJs for courtyard takeovers, ideal for a summer evening with drinks by sponsor Hennessey. Or why not book a dining pod (igloo) for the full experience?

Dodge will follow the courtyard’s mini forest pop-up and is a great return to form for Somerset House. We can’t wait to bump into you there…
