The Weekend Edit: 22 Dresses Inspired By Netflix’s Wednesday Series

From the waist-length pigtails to the starch white collar, Wednesday Adams has been somewhat of a TV fashion icon for decades. But as Tim Burton’s latest Netflix adaptation of The Adams Family – simply titled Wednesday – makes ripples across the internet, we’re seeing a slew of romantic gothic inspired dresses that could have been plucked from the teenager’s wardrobe itself. From layers of taffeta to velvet minis and monochrome colour palettes – the look actually works incredibly well for party season too – scroll to shop our favourites…
Although the opening scene of Wednesday starts with the death-loving doh-eyed main character, played by Jenna Ortega, wearing the iconic black shift with white dagger collar – an ode to all the Wednesdays who came before – the series as a whole takes a more modern approach to her wardrobe. Colleen Atwood is the Oscar-winning costume designer behind it – her previous works have included the likes of Tim Burton’s Sleepy Hollow and Edward Scissorhands – and she’s leant a more romantic edge to the character. Think statement sleeves made of layers upon layers of tulle, velvet bowed necklines, polka dot dresses and checkerboard knits. It’s a softer, more personalised approach to Wednesday, who has suddenly become fashion’s new It-girl.
Recreate the look with 22 of our favourite Wednesday-inspired dresses below…
Wednesday Adams meets high society with this ladylike look. Lean into the OTT collar and high-octane buttons by pairing with white tights and chunky black velvet platforms.

Julia Allert’s black midi dress is a more traditional Wednesday look with it’s simple shape and iconic dagger collar. Keep the look fresh by pairing with chunky brogues or a point-toe knee-high boot.
