A Dune Prequel Is Already In The Works – Here’s What We Know

Just when you thought the Dune buzz was dying out, it’s back in the spotlight again with a new prequel series. Max has shared a first look at Dune: Prophecy, with a trailer that looks as riveting as you would expect it to, considering the first Dune film walked away with six Academy Awards.
The series follows the release of the film Dune Part Two which hit screens in March, starring Timothee Chalamet as protagonist Paul Atreides and Zendaya playing the warrior Chani. The prequel will, however, be set a long time before Atreides and Chani find each other on the planet of Arrakis. Here’s everything we know about the series:
What is Dune: Prophecy About?
Set in the Dune cinematic universe that’s based on the novel by Frank Herbert, Dune: Prophecy takes place 10,000 years before the birth of Atreides. Originally titled Dune: The Sisterhood, the series is inspired by the 2012 science fiction novel Sisterhood Of Dune, written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson, which is the first book in the prequel trilogy, Great Schools of Dune. With an impressive cast of global talent, Dune: Prophecy follows the Harkonnen sisters, Tula (Olivia Williams) and Valya (Emily Watson), as they work to establish what becomes the mighty Bene Gesserit, a social, religious, and political force in the Dune universe. Taking place across six episodes, sisterhood is key to the premise of the series, that delves into characteristic Dune themes of power, deceit, manipulation, war and political influence.

Who else stars?
The cast of Dune: Prophecy includes a roster of stars from across the globe. Indian film actress Tabu (Life of Pi, The Namesake) will play the role of a character called Sister Francesca and Jessica Barden (End of the F***ingWorld) will play the young Valya Harkonnen. You can also expect to see Bridgerton’s diamond Charithra Chandran making her Dune debut as well as Jodhi May playing the Emperor’s consort Natalya and Mark Strong/profile-link] playing the Emperor Javicco Corrino.
The rest of the cast as announced by Warner Bros Discovery includes [profile-link]Travis Fimmel, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Josh Heuston, Chloe Lea, Jade Anouka, Faoileann Cunningham, Edward Davis,, Aoife Hinds, Chris Mason, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Jihae, Emma Canning, and Yerin Ha.
When will it be released?
While we don’t have a release date yet, we know that will be released to stream on Max in the US (we are still waiting for news on the official UK release). Till then, there’s plenty of time to catch up with the Dune universe, read the books, get into the fan fiction and watch (or re-watch) the first two films.
