From slinky form-fitting designs to cosy and cocooning shapes, jumper dresses are a key component to any polished, winter wardrobe. Scroll to shop our favourites and be inspired by four entirely different ways to wear them…

For days when you want to throw something on that’s quick and easy but still looks put together, look no further than the knitted dress. There are plenty to choose from this season. From cocooning shapes at RAEY, Aligne and Free People, Breton stripes at Zara and dresser options like Reformation’s thigh-slit dress in this season’s must-have chocolate brown shade – perfect when you want to dress up but ward off the chill during evenings out.

There are myriad ways to style the one-piece, whether that’s with colour-popping accessories or a roomy coat on the commute.

Maxi lengths are also big news for AW22, offering the ultimate in cosy luxe. Look to COS’s ribbed grey and blue floor skimmer for a piece that will take you from the office to a dinner date, or Ralph Lauren’s intricate pointelle and jacquard weave dress if you’re after something to invest in.

If you’re not into figure-hugging, slinky knit dresses, take a leaf out of Katie Impey’s book with RAEY’s roomy, cocooning sweater dress. Almost sweeping the floor with a generous helping of 100% Italian wool, it will keep you cosy and add some drama to your casual winter wardrobe.

Finish off with luxe accessories to add a bit of polish. We wouldn’t say no to the tweed Chanel bag but there are plenty of high street dupes out there.

Head-to-toe red has been a massive trend this season and a maxi dress is one of the easiest ways to do it. Wear alone with slouchy knee-high boots or add fashion editor appeal by pairing with some wide-leg trousers (sequins optional) and statement red shoes.

Adding layers beneath a dress not only keeps you warm but adds an expensive edge to the look (even when the dress is high street).

We love this look in the evening for a dinner out or special date-night as it still feels elevated but weather-appropriate.

Lean into the unadulterated cosiness of a maxi sweater dress and pair, like Jessie Bush, with a pair of cute socks and chunky black loafers.

Jessie’s power pink cashmere knit is from French luxury label Rowen Rose, who adds a vibrant edge to wardrobe staples with their kaleidoscope colour palettes.

Throw over a grey maxi coat for chillier days and remember the number one rule… if you’re wearing a midi or maxi-length dress, the coat should always be longer than the hem.

If there’s one woman who knows her way around a jumper dress, it’s Rosie Huntington-Whitely. Practically a uniform for the businesswoman and model, her arsenal of form-fitting sweaters maxis and midis presents us with lots of style inspiration.

Opt for Rosie’s monochromatic palette for a look when you need a boost of confidence. We’ve swapped in a killer heel for silver knee-high boots to make it a little more UK-appropriate, but we also love the look with a pair of 20 denier tights and barely-there heels for a date-night look.

Rosie is no stranger to the jumper dress, making them one of her go-to uniforms for the colder months.
