30 Pieces To Nail The Chocolate Brown Trend That Is Everywhere Right Now

For those not content with dopamine dressing, we’ve found the chicest, most wearable trend to hit AW23. From sexy leathers to cosy knits, evening wear to work-appropriate pieces, chocolate brown is having a serious fashion moment. Here’s how to make it work.
Brown has been creeping into our fashion conscience over the summer months, thanks to a raft of influencers living in wafty linen co-ords on European beaches. The shade looks set to stay for Autumn/Winter, as it takes on a darker, deeper tone this season – think hot chocolate or rich cocoa bean – and we love it best worked into a full head-to-toe tonal looks.
The reason being that brown plays really well with texture. It takes on a completely different mood depending on the material it’s worked into. In silk, it feels rich and expensive, whilst in a cashmere knit it is pure cosy indulgence, and leather feels nostalgic and vintage-inspired. It’s also less obvious than go-to black or navy – but no less wearable – and it’s that off-beat charm, that unexpected quality that gives brown its magic.
Insta star, Flavia Stuttgen, makes a case for brown with two cosy denim and chocolate looks.
Another great thing about brown is that it works particularly well with most colours. It has a grounding, earthiness to it that black just can’t offer, which makes it the perfect companion to everything from pillar box red to lemon sherbet, pretty pink to light-wash blue denim.
If you’re ready to leap into your brown era, top of the wish list has to be a Totême coat, whether that’s their buckled shearling jacket or their cult hero scarf coat, both have been worked into a rich brown walnut colour that will elevate weekend denim instantly.
For a more mid-range investment, The Frankie Shop are worth a look. We have fallen hard for their moc-croc flared trousers – perfect with a chunky roll-neck jumper – as well as their wool and cashmere knit which has really oversized long sleeves and slightly padded shoulders for a cool-girl git.
On the high street, COS is where it is at. Check them out for everything from a sweet spread-collar cardigan to vampish leather pieces.
