Good Omens fans, the moment you’ve been waiting for is nearly here: at long last, season 2 of the fantasy comedy is finally hitting screens next month.
Michael Sheen (who’s currently starring in BBC drama Best Interests) and David Tennant (who’s back as Doctor Who this year before Ncuti Gatwa takes over) are both returning as the angel Aziraphale and demon Crowley, as they put their differences aside and battle the forces of evil. They’re in for a whole new adventure this time around, so if you binged The Sandman recently and are keen for more Neil Gaiman fantasy, read on…
Here’s Everything You Need To Know About Good Omens Season 2
Where will this season pick up from?
Good Omens season 1 was based on the original novel from 1990, co-written by Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, and told the book’s entire story in six episodes. But the series received so much love that a second season was commissioned- meaning that season 2’s plot is brand new, and based on the novel’s unpublished sequel. Gaiman “commented Terry’s not here any longer, but when he was, we had talked about what we wanted to do with ‘Good Omens,’ and where the story went next.” And now, thanks to BBC Studios and Amazon, I get to take it there.”
Season 2 aims to not only bring you up to speed with where Aziraphale and Crowley are now, but also go back in time before the events of the novel and first season to explore where they came from. We’ll be heading to Soho as the arch angel Gabriel finds himself there with no idea who he is or why he’s there.
Is there a trailer yet?
The official trailer for Good Omens season 2, released by Amazon just a few days ago, shows what’s in store. Crowley is reunited with Aziraphale (who doesn’t seem overjoyed to see him), and the demon is informed that something’s “up, up”. Gabriel (Jon Hamm) is missing, and the rest of the angels of Heaven are looking for him. But Aziraphale isn’t exactly in heaven’s good books, and Gabriel doesn’t seem to have a clue why he’s arrived on Earth. Fearing what those in Heaven and Hell have planned for the archangel, Crowley suggests hiding him- but that might not be entirely simple. “I think I may have started a war”, Aziraphale says just before the trailer ends.
Who’ll be joining Michael and David?
New characters include Muriel (Quelin Sepulveda), a rather gullible but cheerful angel, Nina (Nina Sosanya ), a coffee shop owner, Maggie (Maggie Service ), who runs a Soho record shop, and demon Shax (Miranda Richardson ), who takes Crowley’s old job after Hell casts him out.
When will it be released?
Good Omens season 2 lands on Amazon Prime on 28th July.
