Adam Driver Suits Up For The Heart Racing Biopic, Ferrari

We might be living in a golden age of biopics, with upcoming hits including Priscilla and Back to Black generating buzz. Away from music legends though is the upcoming Ferrari, starring Adam Driver.
It hopes to tell the story of Italian entrepreneur Enzo Ferrari and how he created a brand synonymous with luxury and status. It also stars Penelopé Cruz and Shailene Woodley and is set to release this Friday 29th December. If you’ve tired the Christmas specials, read on to find out more about this epic.
What is Ferrari about?
Ferrari is directed by Michael Mann, known for his stylish crime thrillers like Heat and Collateral, and is set in the 1950s as Enzo (Driver) grapples with a downturn in fortunes and a difficult marriage.
The first images from the film give us a glimpse of Driver transformed into the role, with a sharp suit, slicked grey hair and impenetrable shades. Enzo, a former Formula One racer himself, began designing and manufacturing cars under his name ten years before the start of the film and is now facing bankruptcy.

Adding to his stress is his crumbling marriage to Laura Ferrari (Cruz), which is headed for divorce. Their son Alfredo had died the previous year, and he hardly acknowledges his other child. Known for his uncompromising style and intense methods of running things, Enzo seems to be drifting into crisis.
Ferrari isn’t a Formula One film though: as he attempts to withdraw from his troubles, Enzo decides to prepare his business for the risky Mille Migila, a 1000-mile endurance race across Italy’s landscape. But disaster looms over the racers, and Enzo becomes embroiled in a controversy that threatens to upend his career.
Who else stars?
The film is based on Enzo’s career as told in the 1991 book Enzo Ferrari: The Man and the Machine by journalist Brock Yates. Alongside Driver and Cruz, Big Little Lies’ Shailene Woodley stars as Lina Lardi, who Enzo had an affair with, and Jack O’Connell, Garbriel Leone, Sarah Gadon and Patrick Dempsey also feature in the cast.
When is it released?
Ferrari is set to release in UK cinemas from Friday 29th December, before landing on NOW TV.
