Aimee Lou Wood Stars In The Heartwarming New Romcom, Film Club
If you’ve been watching season 3 of The White Lotus, you’ll have seen Aimee Lou Wood as Chelsea, one of the many visitors to the Thai resort- but you’ll be able to see her in quite a different role later this year over on the BBC.
Film Club, a romcom drama described as “piercingly funny and utterly heartwarming” is heading to BBC Three and iPlayer, and follows the story of a woman named Evie who struggles with her mental health- but finds escape and solace in a film club she runs with a friend. Here’s all you need to know:
What is Film Club about?
Wood, who’s also known for Sex Education on Netflix, not only stars in Film Club but also co-wrote this touching and emotional but also humorous story. It centres around Evie, who holds a film club every week, selecting what to screen and going to town to decorate her garage to be in theme with whatever movie is playing. But as time has passed, more and more of her friends have lost interest and stopped coming to the club, or drifted away altogether. While the BBC doesn’t mention any specifics in their press release, it’s clear that Evie suffers from some kind of struggle with mental health: she hasn’t left the house for a while six months, due to experiencing a “wobble.”
Her film club still remains a source of comfort for her, allowing her to escape the difficulties of life, and especially since one of her friends, Noa Kaos’s (Nabhaan Rizwan) still happily joins her each time. The two best friends share these precious hours together, but all of this is sadly about to come to an abrupt end when Noa announces that he’s been given a new dream job, that’s far from Evie and means he can no longer visit regularly. The news hits the already struggling Evie hard, and as they work through it, both she and Noa begin to wonder if perhaps they’re more than just friends after all. Can either truly cope without the other?

Also lending their talents to the cast are BAFTA award-winning actress Susanne Jones, known for shows like Vigil and Gentleman Jack, as well as Adam Long (Happy Valley), and Liv Hall (The Great). Currently, a release date is yet to be set in stone, but it’ll be on iPlayer and BBC Three later in 2025.
