Freaky Friday Is Getting A Sequel: All We Know
It’s already been 20 years since Disney’s remake version of Freaky Friday hit screens, but now all this time later Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis are back to reprise their roles in a sequel. Freakier Friday, which has been in the works for quite some time now, will see them once again play mother-daughter duo Tess and Anna Thompson, catch us up on their lives and how they’ve changed since 2003. It joins a list of long-awaited sequels in development like The Devil Wears Prada and 28 Years Later. Here’s all to know:
What is Freakier Friday about?
Before the 2003 version, Freaky Friday had already been adapted from the novel by Mary Rodgers and was, at the time, a modern update of the idea (sorry for reminding you again of how long it’s been). Freakier Friday brings us up to speed on the lives of Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Logan), years after their body swap experience that turned their lives upside down. But now it appears that their roles have indeed changed anyway: Anna is now an adult with a child of her own, as well as a soon-to-be stepdaughter, while her mother, Tess, is now older with fewer responsibilities in life than she used to have.
Dealing with the challenges that two different families coming together can sometimes produce, Anna already has enough on her plate- when she finds that lightning can indeed strike twice. It’s not actually clear, though, whether Tess and Anna are indeed swapping with each other or someone else- so we’ll have to wait and see what’s in store.

While there’s no trailer yet, the stars shared an onset picture of themselves confirming their involvement in the sequel, and Disney released a first-look photo of Lohan and Curtis back in action.
What else do we know, and who else stars?
The movie is currently in production and filming, with a release in cinemas expected in the middle of 2025. Alongside Lohan and Curtis, Freakier Friday also sees the return of original cast members Mark Harmon (NCIS) as Tess’ husband, Chad Michael Murray (Sullivan’s Crossing) as Jake, Anna’s love interest from the first film, Christina Vidal (Primo) as Anna’s friend Maddie, Haley Hudson (The Pact) as Peg, another of Anna’s close friends and Rosalind Chao (Mulan) as Pei-Pei.
Freakier Friday will release on 8th August 2025.
