At last, Netflix’s smash hit Wednesday is finally back for season 2. After debuting in 2022 and catapulting Jenna Ortega (Beetlejuice Beetlejuice) to stardom, Wednesday’s second outing hopes to be bigger and better.

Taking things to a more “grown-up” level, the morbid and macabre Wednesday Addams returns to Nevermore Academy, navigating friends and family and dealing with enemies both old and new. Here’s everything we know about the second season.

What is Wednesday season 2 about?

Wednesday was always going to return for another season after the first exceeded expectations and became a blockbuster success, not only making Wednesday and the Addams family popular again, but also creating the viral “Wednesday dance” that took TikTok by storm. Three years later, the show is finally back on Netflix, with Ortega reprising the role that made her a household name and now producing. But what can we expect this time around? At first glance, it looks like more of the same that made the show so successful in the first place: gothic visuals, a supernatural mystery, and generally all things mysterious and kooky. Another dance sequence? It’s probably a safe bet.

But it seems like Season 2 will be a bit more mature, with the show’s creators and producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar saying that “This season, Wednesday’s journey is darker and more complex as she navigates family, friends, new mysteries, and old adversaries, propelling her headlong into another year at Nevermore.” Wednesday still has her wit and morbid sense of humour, but there’s a new mystery that she’ll be drawn into at Nevermore that will see the return of old foes.

What else do we know?

Wednesday’s friends and family will of course play a big part in her life again this season- Emma Myers (The Minecraft Movie), who also became a breakout new star after the first season, returns to play Wednesday’s friend and fellow student Enid Sinclair, as does Joy Sunday as Bianca Barclay (Dog).  Of course, the rest of the Addams return, with Catherine Zeta Jones (Feud)  back as Wednesday’s mother, Morticia, and Luis Guzmán (Poker Face) as Gomez. You can also expect appearances from Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez) and Uncle Fester (Fred Armisen) in the new season, alongside some big guest stars. Steve Buscemi (Broadwalk Empire), Billie Piper (I Hate Suzie), Joanna Lumley (Absolutely Fabulous), Christopher Lloyd (Nobody) and Thandiwe Newton (Human Resources) will be joining the cast, plus Tim Burton returns as director/producer.

Is there a release date?

Wednesday season 2 releases in two separate parts: Part 1 on 6th August, and Part 2 on 3rd September.
