Kate Winslet Directs Her First Film, Goodbye June
None other than Kate Winslet, one of the biggest names in Hollywood, is taking her talents behind the camera to direct a film for the first time. Goodbye June, which also stars the actress in the main role, is a drama set in Britain focusing on four siblings and their suddenly chaotic life circumstances. It’s set to also star Toni Colette (Mickey 17) and Helen Mirren (MobLand), and will be released in cinemas and on Netflix in December. Here’s everything we know so far…
What is Goodbye June about?
The film is set just before Christmas, and Winslet stars as one of four adult siblings as they navigate family drama. Their mother, June Helen Mirren, has had a sudden turn for the worse in her health, and may not have long to live. In the face of potential loss, the four siblings must come together, despite their differences, along with their exasperating father (Timothy Spall), to prepare for what might come next. The family has a complex, messy dynamic, meaning things won’t be easy for them.
However, according to the plot synopsis, June still has a quick wit and a plan for her future, and decides to “orchestrate her decline on her own terms.” Winslet’s drama explores themes of family, death and getting older with “biting humour, blunt honesty, and a lot of love.” Netflix has promised more details about the plot and specifics of who’s playing who will come out in the near future.

Goodbye June has a bumper supporting cast alongside Kate Winslet: Helen Mirren and Timothy Spall play the siblings’ parents, while Toni Colette, Andrea Riseborough (Lee) and Johnny Flynn (One Life), round out the rest of the family unit. Meanwhile, other names set to appear include Stephen Merchant (The Outlaws), Fisayo Akinade (Heartstopper), Jeremy Swift (Ted Lasso) and Raza Jaffery (The Serpent Queen).
Release date
