It’s with decorative delight that we announce the revival of grandmacore. Expect opulence and chintz, from frills, fringe and trims to silk florals and decadent velvets. With a dance down memory lane, look out for the return of the granny sofa…

Nostalgia has been at the heart of recent interiors trends. Now, in 2026, we dive into reminiscent decor. Consider your chic grandmother the best inspo. Refined clutter, plush fabrics, passementerie, all the decorative trimmings, florals, bullion fringe and skirted furniture. And, obviously, the right settee is key.

For now, the renowned vintage sites are capitalising on the surge in adoration for all things fanciful. Head to 1st Dibs, Pamono and Vinterior for authentic pieces. Ahead of the curve, as ever, are both Soho Home and Jonathan Adler with their modern takes on both the fringed and skirted sofa. Each brand has successfully captured that retro feel, while remaining utterly contemporary and stylish.

Honestly, I was on the fence with this one, but as ever, the more curated living rooms I see with the granny sofa at centre stage, the more I see the vision. With Swoon offering affordable takes on grandmacore, it may be the best place to start. Although adding a flouncy footstool or skirted ottoman is perhaps the best entry-level… I’ve sourced some of them, too, just in case.

So what do you think? Are you ready to perfect your posture and have a cuppa with Grandma?

The fringed style…

Of course, if splashing out on a whole new living room setup is out of the question, consider transforming what you already have. You will find bullion fringe and other fancy trimmings at all the great haberdasheries and fabric stores. Look to VVRouleaux, John Lewis, Etsy or Samuel and Sons.

The skirted style…

If what you’re dreaming of isn’t on the high street, there’s a world of creators waiting to design the perfect sofa. Isabel & Co specialises in bespoke, unique furniture, while Desired Effect Antiques embodies the British country-house aesthetic, upcycling seating with traditional upholsterers across England. So you see, anything is possible…

Alternatively, consider a footstool or ottoman…
