We Review The New 3-Step Hair Routine
With party season on our doorstep, now is the perfect time to give your hair a little extra TLC. But that doesn’t necessarily mean you have to clamber for a booking at the salon (a near-impossible task at this time of year anyway). Instead, what if there was a quick and easy routine that you could introduce at home that would give you salon-quality hair? Introducing: Hairstory‘s – revolutionary three-step hair and scalp routine featuring its much loved hair cleanser ‘New Wash’. Find out what it involves, along with our Editor’s review of the at-home treatment.

The 3-steps
Suitable for all hair types, this straightforward three-step regime is known as Hairstory’s ultimate new wash method and is perfect for those looking to soothe their scalps and refresh their hair without booking in for fancy treatments or introducing countless products.
1. Pre-Wash
This first step starts by prepping and purifying the scalp. The rinse removes excess product build-up, oil, and dirt before the wash stage. Plus, the addition of prebiotics to the formula – making it the only detergent-free micellar complex with prebiotics – helps balance moisture and support a healthy microbiome. Top tip: You can even apply Pre-wash to dry hair for a quick refresh between washes.
2. New Wash
Next up, the main event. Hairstory’s award-winning New Wash is a gentle, detergent-free formula which means it cleans your hair without stripping it. There are a handful of different New Wash variations you can choose from too, ranging from classic to clarifying, depending on what you want to focus on. Notably, New-Wash respects your body’s natural moisture barrier (unlike shampoo), leaving your hair smoother, silkier, shinier, and even helps colour last longer.
3. Primer
Once your hair is clean, it’s time to lock in the moisture ready for styling. The Primer is a weightless mist that helps detangle, smooth and protect your hair from heat (up to 230 degrees Celsius), pollution, humidity and UV rays.
The process
The Pre-Wash was quick and easy to apply with a nozzle end. I massaged the water-like formula into the roots and left it on my head for three minutes (the recommended time), before jumping into the shower.
Next was the New Wash, which has the consistency of a thick conditioner. For someone with flat hair, I was worried that the product would make my hair heavy and lifeless, but I was pleasantly surprised by how light and clean my hair felt. The packaging says to rinse the cream thoroughly (I’d suggest rinsing for even longer than you expect) before reapplying, should you wish. As a rinse & repeat fan, this is exactly what I did.
Post-shower, I applied the Primer spray as I would a regular heat protector. The combination of this moisture-locking technology teamed with the nourishing Pre-Wash meant my hair felt super soft and easy to detangle before using the hairdryer.

Results
My hair felt both clean and fresh while also feeling nourished – a balance I’ve previously struggled to strike.
The verdict? My hair felt both clean and fresh while also feeling nourished – a balance I’ve previously struggled to strike. I already have a filtered shower head to help prevent build-up on the scalp due to London’s hard water, but this three-step routine was quicker than my usual process – two fewer products, to be exact – and it was great for refreshing my hair after including using styling mousse and dry shampoo (a mainstay before hair wash day). Granted, these products don’t come cheap, but if you’re looking to invest in your hair ahead of party season, then it’s worth considering. To get the best value, opt for the bundle option or, once you’ve given it a go, set up a monthly subscription.
