We’re officially in coat season and whilst we know we often wax lyrical about the importance of building a timeless, investment wardrobe, this winter’s impending cost of living crisis has us all tightening the purse strings. Good news then, that the high street is offering up plenty of winners that look especially expensive this season.
First up, Mango’s Appliqué Faux Fur Coat that’s had plenty of airtime on Instagram – it’s already sold out once but is thankfully back in stock (in-store only) for the time being… The cosy, shearling-look style is a riff on the Totême boxy jacket loved by the style set – but at a mere 10th of the price. We’ll be wearing it with mid-wash denim, this season’s cowboy boot trend, and a classic cashmere knit.

When it comes to affordable outerwear H&M always deliver on timeless shapes and neutral colourways. Take style tips from Parisian influencer Aida of Basic Touch and pair this creamy number with mid-wash denim, cocooning creamy knits and lace-up ankle boots.
For something a little more smart and structured go for masculine shapes that won’t date. H&M’s Grey Wool Coat with waist-cinching belt will add polish to so many looks, from trusted weekend denim to workwear tailoring and after-hours leather pieces. Whilst & Other Stories’ Voluminous Belted Wool Coat in inky navy is a dead ringer for last season’s wish list-worthy Annie Bing wrap coat.
When it comes to colour, go neutral for wardrobe longevity – think classic camels to workwear greys and timeless black. We love Jaeger’s Wool Rich Relaxed Longline Coat in warm caramel with its statement scarf neck detail – like a cosy sartorial hug; as well as Principle’s Textured Cocoon Coat in creamy off-white. Wear it with head-to-toe winter whites for a luxe look you’ll bring out season after season.
