4 Editors Share The 1 Item They’re Investing In For Autumn

The start of the new season has The Handbook fashion team all kinds of excited for the fresh and fun new trends entering the fray. While you can easily find yourself with a long list of pieces you’d love to try – or perhaps we’re just projecting – this isn’t always realistic (or advisable). So, instead, we asked our fashion team to share the single piece they’ve already invested in or plan on shopping for, to see them through the months ahead in style – here’s what they had to say…

Definitely an investment piece, but having previously purchased an Anine Bing tote several years ago, I can trust the quality, wearability and durability. This smaller bag is the most beautiful, understated accessory. Made from buttery soft textured leather in a gorgeous shade of cognac brown, it will work with all of this season’s hottest colours – from chocolate to deep burgundy. And yet, while it feels on trend, it’s also timeless, making it the perfect bag to slot neatly into my capsule wardrobe. So when I’m not lugging my oversized work bag around, I’ll have this chic little number decorating my arm for years to come.

Slouchy + suede is a combination I’ll rarely pass up, so when Zara’s bomber jacket started gaining traction online, I added it to my card in what I can only describe as a new PB time. Of course, I don’t wear suede when it’s raining (which is increasingly often in London of late), but I’ve already got this piece on regular rotation with jeans and trousers. Plus, the roomy fit makes it super easy to throw on whatever layering situation you’ve got going on underneath.

Given I live in Glasgow, I’m on a mission to find a genuinely waterproof, practical jacket this season. I think I’ve finally found it in this Damson Madder, cinched waist-tartan dream. It’s been sitting in my basket for a couple of weeks, but after seeing a girl walk past me in the street wearing it – and looking 10/10 – I was completely sold. Even though it’s super practical for the weather, it’s incredibly versatile. I can already see myself styling it in so many ways – think a winter midi skirt and chunky boots, or straight-leg denim and point-toe heels.

I think I’ve finally found the perfect pair of jeans in the Levi’s Cinch Barrel silhouette. The shape is super flattering while still roomy enough to work with chunky knits or boots – ideal for cold-weather layering. On milder days, I love how they look with a ballet flat peeking out from the hem, giving them a softer, more polished feel. I’ve been rotating them with a brown leather jacket and scarf, or throwing on an oversized blazer for a work fit. What makes them so good is the structure: they keep their shape, so even with bulkier layers, they never look frumpy.
