Glen Powell & Margaret Qualley Lead New Thriller, How To Make A Killing
Glen Powell has become a leading man in action movies and Rom-Coms – but his next big role might be his most interesting yet. How to Make a Killing, which releases today [11th March, 2026], is a dark comedy-thriller which follows Powell seeking to claw back his lost inheritance, no matter the cost. It also stars Margaret Qualley and Ed Harris– here’s everything you need to know:
What is How to Make a Killing about?
The new film is actually loosely based on the classic 1940s British film Kind Hearts and Coronets, which starred Sir Alec Guinness– though it’s set in modern-day America. Beckett Redfellow sounds like the name of a rich aristocrat- but in reality, Beckett (Powell) is a blue-collar worker leading an ordinary and mostly mundane life. However, he was born into a hugely wealthy family, but instead of receiving his share of their money, was disowned at birth and frozen out of getting a single penny. His mother was also disowned, and has long promised they would eventually turn things around financially. Unsurprisingly, this disownment means he holds a grudge- and when he sees an opportunity to reclaim that inheritance, he grabs hold of the idea fervently.
It’s clear, though (as you’ve probably guessed by the film’s title) that Beckett doesn’t intend to ask nicely, and instead will do whatever he can to get hold of the wealth he feels he deserves. The official trailers released by A24 give a bit more info: Beckett explains that there are seven other family members (or “rich pricks”) that stand in the way of him and his vast $28 billion fortune, and he begins to map out ways to “get rid of them. Like, say, pushing one off a boat. Meanwhile, he seems to have something of a helping hand from his childhood friend, Julia (Qualley), who eggs him on with (pretty obvious) references to murder. Obviously, there’s plenty of risks involved and a lot of law breaking- but $28 billion gives someone a lot of power…

Also in the cast is Jessica Henwick, who plays Beckett’s girlfriend Ruth, as well as Topher Grace, Ed Harris and Biaca Amato, who all play members of the extended Redfellow family.
