Who Ate It Best: New York Vs. London

When I made the decision to venture across the pond, I knew that major lifestyle changes would need to take place. I was quick to trade my heavy parka in for a rain slicker, abandon my gridlike sense of direction as I soon learned that there is no such thing as “uptown and downtown” here, and swap my Venti Iced Caramel Macchiato for a steaming cup of black tea.

While I may be across the pond instead of the Big Apple, I knew I couldn’t replace my sweet tooth. The first few weeks here, I searched high and low for NYC doppelgängers that would fuel my sugar addiction. Not only do I have a few pounds to show for this feat, but a list of the best dessert spots in London that are sure to satisfy anyone’s deepest cravings.

Over-The-Top Milkshakes

To start off, it’s Sweet Desserts cosy shop nestled in the crook of Mile End. The dimly lit space creates peaceful ambience, while the walls offer short & sweet messages such as: “Worry less Smile Often” and “Think Outside The Box.” It presents a variety of tasty treats ranging from over-the-top milkshakes to a simple cup of gelato. These outrageous shakes are served in mason jars and can be topped with cookies, ice cream sandwiches, giant chunks of cookie dough, or even an entire slice of Victoria sponge cake. Coincidentally, there is a “Big Apple” jar on the menu that is filled with caramel and vanilla gelato and crowned with a fresh slice of apple pie…a delicious reminder of home for sure!
