Tobacco Is the Sexiest Colour Trend to Happen to Interiors

We’ve had chocolate, mocha, cinnamon, you name it, brown has, without doubt, been one of the interior world’s biggest trends recently. For 2026? We’ve fallen in love with the sexy, moody and nostalgic feel of tobacco. Here’s how to make it work in your home…
Browns of all descriptions are such wonderfully versatile colours to use in the home. They are warm and cocooning, rich and smooth, and because they are such a dominant colour found in nature, they are gloriously grounding, and work beautifully as a base to so many other shades – putty pink, vibrant ochre or rich cinnamon, to name just a few.
The tobacco trend really leans into a sense of nostalgia, too – it feels like you’re looking through an intense, ’70s-feel smoky haze, whether it’s a love-worn leather sofa or a statement velvet chair.

Whilst we love the look in big-ticket items – think a burl wood coffee table or a sumptuous huge rug underfoot – you can add a snippet of that retro feel to a room with lots of tobacco-hued accessories that are around right now.
We’ve got our eye on everything from Swoon’s sweet pleated and wood wall lights – gorgeous either side of a mantel, Nkuku’s tobacco mugs that will add a ’70s vibe to your morning cup of coffee, and Soho Home’s resin salad bowl that is practical and nice to look at all at once.

Tobacco might be completely out of fashion in the real world, but it’s seriously in vogue as a grounding and nostalgic colour to use in the home.
