Nobody Puts These 10 Best Rom-Coms In The Corner
Classic rom-coms are the beating heart of love stories, the “nobody puts baby in the corner” heart throbs, and the cheesy screen-kissing go-to’s that make you want to delete your Tinder app and climb up a ferris wheel to meet the girl of your dreams, circa Rylan Gosling in The Notebook. So, as Autumn nears to a close and big socks, darker nights and cosy knits seem like a stone’s throw away, here’s a compendium of rom-com’s that will add an extra va-va-voom, and a spruce of spice to the love life.
Hitch
It’s the 2005 film that had us lusting over Will Smith even more than usual. Hitch sees Alex “Hitch” Hitchens (Will Smith) in an attempt to pursue Eva Mendes (Rylan Gosling, cover your eyes). Obviously there’s a whole load of drama thrown in but, like most of these older contenders, the movie ends on a pretty happy note.

Titanic
The Titanic is absolutely timeless – so much so that a picture of Rose and Jack doesn’t really need much accompaniment. However, don’t watch this with your parents/grandparents… we all know “paint me like one of your French girls” makes things steamier than a bathroom after a shower without the window open.

Love Actually
Seeing a conglomerate of people get into ridiculously cute relationships might be worth a swerve if you’re a singleton this Christmas. However, for those who do love a slice of Love Actually – is it really Christmas Day without it?

The Notebook
I think I might’ve watched this film more times than I can count on one hand, and I reckon the stress of Allie’s decision of whether or not to stay with Noah has taken years off my life. Still, it’s a timeless romance that makes every gal amongst us question why we haven’t had a white picket-fence house with a terrace for drinking tea made for us yet?

P.S. I Love You
Despite being bittersweet, P.S. I Love You harbours the cutest message, and the cutest guy. Yep, we’re talking about Gerard Butler who, even he wasn’t already sexy, has a butter-wouldn’t-melt Irish accent. For those who don’t know, but should, the movie is about Holly and Gerry, a stereotypical couple who loved an argument but made up steamily afterwards. However, come winter Gerry has tied of a brain tumour and Holly recollects how much he meant to her.

Sleepless in Seattle
Tom Hanks is just the best person to watch in a rom-com. There is a cosiness about it, a familiarity like no other, and Sleepless in Seattle is such a heart-warming film, starring Meg Ryan as the beautiful leading lady that she is. It’s an oldie (1993) but a goodie, and will have you shouting at your screen in moments of frustration and/or passion.

Dirty Dancing
Nobody puts baby in the corner, in the same way that nobody puts Dirty Dancing on a dusty shelf never to be played again. The classic is an ankle-warmer, hip shaking love story that has us lusting over Patrick Swayze all over again.

Roman Holiday
Who doesn’t love Audrey Hepburn and a Vespa scooter? This absolutely timeless classic sees touring European princess Ann (Audrey Hepburn) take off for a night in Rome, fall asleep on a park bench and fall in love with American reporter, Joe Bradley – the lucky chap.

Pretty Woman
This film is so satisfying, circa Julia Roberts going back into the shop she was bitched out of by upperty ladies looking and feeling like a superstar. Alongside this, everything else about this classic is great – most notably Richard Gere and Julia Roberts’ faces. To say they’d have beautiful babies is an understatement.

10 Things I Hate About You
I’m sure I can vouch for all Heath Ledger lovers when I say we miss him more than ever. However, luckily we have gems like 10 Things I Hate About You. Kat Stratford (Julia Stiles) is beautiful, smart and quite abrasive to most of her fellow teens, meaning that she doesn’t attract many boys. Then Heath comes along, and whilst Julia Stiles might find 10 things to hate about him, we certainly can’t.
