9 Theatre Shows You Need To Go To
Let’s face it, many if not most of us would desire nothing more than to be a fly on the wall in someone’s home, (mainly to see if they’re as weird as we are). Which is why theatre and film provide marvellous ways to people watch and to escape from your own reality, if only for a while. And, seeing as London is an absolute hub of creativity and gumption when it comes to theatre, we thought we’d share with you some of our top picks this month.
You know, I actually did a theatrical performance about puns once. Really it was just a play on words…anyway, if these performances are as good as mine just was, you’re on to some winners.
Dominion Theatre
Bat Out of Hell, The Musical
Calling all those who sang into a hairbrush in front of the mirror, circa aged 9. Now, all of your pop-star dreams can come true as Bat Out of Hell – The Musical returns, allowing audience members to sing along with the cast. Yep, that’s right – five sing-along performances will allow guests to belt out Jim Steinman classics during the performances at the Dominion Theatre, and during Halloween and New Year, audiences members will have the option to come along dressed up as their favourite Meat Loaf music-vid character. Yep, that’s pretty scary – Halloween costume? Sorted. Until January 2019

Gielgud Theatre
Imperium
From the RSC comes Imperium I: Conspirator, which sees writer Mike Poulton turn his pen to power and politics – quite aptly timed what with the happenings of a certain ginger-haired man. No names mentioned. In Imperium I, Cicero is elected consul by a unanimous vote of the Roman people and, of course, his aristocratic rival isn’t best pleased (let’s face it, if he was pleased there’d be no cause for a play). So, because this is Ancient Rome and blood always has to be involved somehow, the rival swears a blood oath to destroy Cicero. Starring Richard McCabe. Until 8th of September

Tina: The Tina Turner Musical
What’s love got to do, got to do with it…
Boom. This is sure to be a powerful performance, as Tina Turner the Musical rocks the Aldywch Theatre. About the musical, Tina Turner says: “It’s really important to me to have the chance to share my full story. This musical is not about my stardom. It is about the journey I took to get there”. And so, you’ll be in for a evening of Proud Mary, I Don’t wanna Lose You, Better Be Good to Me, amongst other classics. Until February 2019

Chicago The Musical
Now, Chicago has been around for a while that’s a given, but it’s like an episode of Friends… still the UK’s most popular streaming show despite being 14 years old. And, just like our friends, Chicago is a classic that never gets old (quite literally)! Starring Cuba Gooding Jr, the longest-running American musical (in Broadway history!!!!) sees its two Vaudevillian criminals Roxie and Velma ride through their crimes, time in prison and trials. Fiesty. Whilst we feel no need to list the songs, as they’re so well known and all that jazz, there will be the classics such as I Can’t Do It Alone, and Razzle Dazzle. Until 6th October

And, to celebrate the 60th anniversary of one of our favourite bears (Pooh, we love you too), Studio Canal and Heyday Films have introduced a performance of Paddington in high-definition with a live symphony orchestra to play the musical score. Cuteness overload! Until 14th of October
