Good hair and affordable rates needn’t be mutually exclusive, but when it comes to London, haircuts are up there with pubs and coffee: outrageously expensive compared to the rest of the country.

While booking in with Alexa’s go-to coiffeur, George Northwood, every few months would be nice, it’s not exactly realistic. But don’t worry; there are plenty of incredibly talented stylists and cool salons to while away a Saturday afternoon in the capital that charge far more modest rates. From the masters of balayage to the Black hair salon embracing natural hair, here are our favourite affordable hairdressers in London…

Blue Tit

Prices start from around £81, but check ahead as it may differ from salon to salon.

Although at the pricer end of affordable, Blue Tit has done away with one price for men and one for women, which really isn’t fair, is it? Instead, offering a gender-neutral price list starting at £81 per cut.

Their 18 salons, which are dotted all over London, are all designed with their own unique, quirky charm – think anything from emerald velvet sofas to industrial exposed brick –  and use sustainable and kind-to-hair products throughout.

Their stylists are trustworthy, cool and have good chat (a must IMO) and can work their magic with anything from ethically sourced human hair extensions to fringes to basic chops.

Muse of London

Haircuts start from £40.

Once a West End go-to, Muse of London has moved east to Containerville in Shoreditch.

Cuts start from £40, cut & blow-dry from £80 and colour from as little as £50. Plus, they offer a range of treatments, like our favourite Olaplex, at competitive prices.

They also have a sister salon in Devon if you’re out that way. And, the best bit, you can have a cocktail whilst you get your hair done. Ideal.

Bebop

Cut and finish prices from £70.

Head to Holloway’s Bebop Salon for award-winning service at reasonable price points. The laid-back salon was opened in 2017 by stylists Pont Smith and Chloé Hervé, who previously worked at renowned salons, Myla & Davis and Bluetit.

There’s a focus on vegan and cruelty-free ingredients and down-to-earth service at gender-neutral price points. Although their signature style is understated cool, the team’s attention to detail is second to none and insists on all new colour clients having a proper consultation first to ensure they leave feeling the best version of themselves.

Oh, and expect an epic playlist while you get your hair done, too.

Duck & Dry

Prices for a cut and blow-dry start from £99.

Best-loved for their epic blow-drys, Duck & Dry also offers a trim service at each of their three London salons. You can tag a trim onto one of their signature blow-drys when you book, and if you’re new here, Duck & Dry blowouts are no ordinary blowouts – look after it and it could last you a week and still look fresh.

The affordable blow-dry menu is ideal if you have big evening plans that demand even bigger hair.

Choose from a dedicated blow-dry menu, offering everything from all-out glamour to an express refresh (no wash needed). Starting from just £40, it’s perfect if you’re sneaking out on your lunch break with big evening plans that demand even bigger hair.
