For a year that brought with it such high hopes, the summer soon slipped through our fingers (thanks COVID) and plans for a quick summer soirée off to the Italian Riviera were reluctantly replaced with endless nights stuck inside our tiny one bedroom apartments. But, while a trip to the Med is still off the cards for the foreseeable, we’ve found a drinks brand that’s helping to bring the sun, mountains and sea to you, one sip at a time.

What’s the story behind the brand?
Hoping to momentarily guide you on a picturesque journey across Italian landscapes, Portofino Gin is inspired by the quaint fishermen’s village of Portofino, known best for its small harbour and technicolour buildings lining the turquoise shore.
Their company, Pudel Srl, was also founded in homage to their grandfather Klaus Pudel and his adoration for Portofino, and his love for the village has been passed down through generations. Portofino Gin was created in honour of their grandfather’s passion and created for Klaus to enjoy sipping on the piazzetta while gazing out over the colourful harbour at sunset.
Rich in history, the gin is produced by an Antique Italian Distillery. With each batch delicately made using a combination of traditional and innovative methods, from an ancient Italian copper still, which is historically used to distill local liqueurs and grappas, to the latest generation Rotavapor©, helping to preserve delicate aromas from their carefully selected botanicals using vacuum distillation.
They’ve also recently won awards from The Gin Masters and The Gin Masters Asia, and obtained the highest judging score in the ‘distilled gin’ category at The Gin Guide Awards, so you know you’re in safe hands here.

Paired alongside a neutral tonic, the Mediterranean flavours really come into their own, from the rosemary and lavender perfumes of the coastal scrub to delicate marjoram and sage notes.
What botanicals have been mixed in?
To create this fresh, fragrant aroma, the gin features 21 ingredients, all carefully selected for their vibrant aromatic influences.
Every batch features juniper, lemon, lavender, rosemary, marjoram, sage, iris and roses which are all hand-picked from their gardens on the hills of Portofino. Freshly grown and ripened under the glistening Italian sun, you can really taste its natural, aromatised flavours.
Who’s behind it?
Portofino Gin is the brainchild of Pudel Srl, and was inspired by their grandfather’s love for the coastal village of Portofino.
Klaus was known for his colourful character, helping to add to the history of the iconic square, saving it from destruction during the Second World War. Known best for his glamorous parties with actors and famous faces of the Dolce Vita era, his flamboyant character has really come to life through the brand’s branding and flavours.
What inspired the pretty branding?
Portofino Gin without a doubt boasts the prettiest branding we’ve seen; inspired by the radiant, rainbow houses lining the hills of the harbour village.
Definitely one that outshines other gins on flavour and branding, and one you’ll want to bring out at your next dinner party to really wow your guests.
Of course, the most important question: how’s it best served?
For a truly immersive Mediterranean experience, serve Portofino Gin with lashings of ice, a fresh lemon peel and a premium neutral tonic water.
Garnish with a sprig of marjoram or rosemary to really brighten the essence of Liguria.
