Another summer has swept by, but if you’re feeling the brunt of autumn’s arrival and the cooler weather already, there are a few things that will keep you going. Including the line-up of new restaurants opening this month…
From the new Australian restaurant bringing the sunny climes back to the city to the arrival of renowned chef, Alex Dilling at Hotel Café Royal, these are the openings to look out for this September.
A brand new modern Japanese restaurant is landing this month. Inspired by the nature-spirited roots and duality of Mount Fuji, Koyn comes from the restaurant group behind Michelin-starred Jamavar, MiMi Mei Pair, Bombay Bustle and Socca.
The restaurant has been designed around Japan’s enigmatic volcano, so you can expect the two-story space to have contrasting areas. MIDORI, the green room, will represent the vegetative life on the snow capped peaks while MAGMA, the charred room, will nod to the active, bubbling volcano.

Executive chef Rhys Cattermoul has created a menu rich with umami flavours and locally sourced produce. The grilled menu highlight will of course be the hojicha-smoked lamb marinated with spicy kuromame miso, hispi cabbage grilled with homemade koji dressing; as well as wagyu ishiyaki, served on a sizzling hot stone with KOYN’s Yakiniku Sauce.
Alex Dilling at Hotel Café Royal

Since returning to the UK, he joined Helene Darroze as executive corporate chef. Now he’ll be bringing his expertise to the table at this iconic Regent Street hotel.
This new venue will see Alex add a modern twist to traditional French cuisine. Expect a tasting menu available on Thursday and Fridays, with dishes such as veal shank; wild brill with squid, coco haricot bean and basque chorizo; dry aged beef sirloin for two.

It might not be summer but that isn’t stopping new all-day Australian restaurant, Milk Beach, from bringing the sunny vibes to London. This month sees the restaurant land in Soho, bringing with it stunning interiors, a large outdoor courtyard, cocktails and brunch options to suit every occasion.
Milk Beach will offer up that Australian coastal aesthetic we all know and love – think high ceilings, natural light, palm trees and muted-toned accessories.
On the menu front, crafted by Soho executive chef, Darren Leadbeater,, expect fresh BBQ-inspired dishes cooked over a large Robata grill. Think Chinese 5-spice BBQ pork rib dumplings; chilli pho go consommé; and koji marinated chicken ‘schnitty’ with chicken salt chips.
This one might not be an opening but it’s a reopening we’re super excited about! Soho’s Chotto Matte will be reopening in style this month after a stellar redesign.
The reimagined restaurant will debut a stylish lounge bar, as well as new menu and cocktail options available to enjoy. Sip into the night on their Tokyo to Lima cocktail menu, before sampling their Nikkei inspired food menu. Menu highlights include yellowtail ‘nikkei sashimi’ with jalapeno, coriander and yuzu truffle soy; wagyu sirloin with truffle teriyaki sauce; and black cod aji miso with chilli miso marinade, yuzu and chives.
