pantone colour 2023

It’s time to toast to the new PANTONE Colour of 2023. Introducing ‘ Viva Magenta 18-1750,’ a vibrant red-meets-raspberry pumping vim and vigour that’s set to dictate many a fashion, beauty and interiors trend come the new year.

Looking to bring braveness, fearlessness and joy to 2023? There’s a colour for that. PANTONE has announced their Color of the Year, the shade that represents the zeitgeist and will no doubt be taken on board by countless brands to create products in an iteration of its hue, from beauty palettes to fashion lines and interiors trends. The shade, energetically named ‘Viva Magenta,’ sits in the red family and has been created as a metaphorical antidote to the over-technological world we live in.

Rooted in nature, Viva Magenta is inspired by the red of cochineal, one of the most precious dyes belonging to the natural dye family as well as one of the strongest and brightest the world has known. The shade is said to express a new signal of strength, encourage experimentation and self-expression, welcoming everyone with a verve for life or a courageous, rebellious spirit. And it does feel like PANTONE has intended to make a statement with 2023’s shade; it’s bold, bright and a departure from last years slightly woo woo, Very Peri colour that was crowned as last year’s king.

Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director at PANTONE, has said the colour is “rooted in the primordial and reconnects us to original matter. Invoking the forces of nature, PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta galvanizes our spirit, helping us to build our inner strength.”

The shade, or shades close to Viva Magenta, have already been trickling down into some of fashion’s biggest collections, from sheer dresses at Nensi Dojaka to sumptuous velvets at Loewe. In addition to fashion, 2023’s shade is an all-rounder, playing well to beauty trends and interior styles too. Think of lip-stained berry lips or sun-kissed cheeks or jewel-toned homeware, from dramatic wallpaper to regal cushions and curtains.
