7 Party Trends We’re Wearing This Season

5th December 2024 | By Ashling McCloy

It’s time to dust off the sequins and get festive. From office parties to Christmas cocktails, here are the (not unexpected) party trends we’ll be slipping into…

You know it’s time to turn up the sparkle the minute Mariah Carey sings. So, as with most years, sequins are high on the fashion agenda, as are red dresses. The latter are guaranteed to get you feeling Christmassy. Plus, nothing could be more joy-enhancing than bringing in the festivities feeling and looking sensational.

Unsurprisingly, numerous brands have embraced the shimmer. Queens Of Archive is one label that knows how to party. Its ’70s-inspired collection is a must for disco lovers… especially the super glam ones. Topshop has followed the same vibe, with a dazzling array of dresses, jumpsuits and oversized faux fur coats that look irresistibly cool. These party trends are more a way of life, than a passing fad. I mean, when will silvers and golds ever look out of place – especially at Christmas.

We only need look to the content creators currently filling our socials with inspo. I adore Stephanie Yeboah’s style, which has come into its own this month. The above picture is perfection with her embracing that liquid metallic trend in a Meshki gold-buttoned dress. While Elizabeth Day stepped out in the most breathtaking Aligne dress. That was a moment of serious style envy for me.

Other party fashion trends include a celebration of velvet, that rich fabric that never fails to look luxurious. Plus, for those avoiding fancy frocks, you can lean into embellished trousers and jeans. For the sake of this article, we’re calling them party pants. So, there’s no excuses, it’s time to show up.

1. Sparkle

Who can resist sequins and rhinestones at this time of year? More is definitely more.

2. Velvet

Grown-up, glamourous and flawlessly chic, velvet pieces are a must if you’re looking to elevate your look.

3. Red

Personally, I love a red dress on Christmas day, but honestly, be bold and don for all the festivities.

4. Little Black Dress

More a classic than a trend, but the cuts this season are spectacular. From minis to feather-trimmed midis, the little black dress is a perennial favourite.

5. Faux Fur

The faux fur coat has staged a bit of a comeback. This year it’s looking totally rock’n’roll when paired with sequins or cocktail dresses.

6. Party Pants

For those of you not loving dresses, say hi to these fabulous party pants. Party, but keep it comfy.

7. Metallics

Fun, sexy and like molten metal, these shimmering fabrics will 100% get you noticed at the office party.
