The red jacket is definitely having a moment right now in both menswear and womenswear. That’s no doubt down to the viral Wuthering Heights press tour moment in February when Jacob Elordi was spotted in that near-perfect suede Bode piece, effortlessly styled with a nonchalantly half-turned collar, shades, and his signature mod-mullet hybrid that’s inspired countless trips to the barber’s chair.
And when you hyperfixate on a fashion hero, you end up spotting them everywhere, from the high street to investment pieces. This is exactly what’s happened with the red jacket.
The look is decidedly casual – think sporty or preppy shapes, windbreaker tech, or nods to nostalgia with ’60s silhouettes and plenty of suede.
The reason it works so well is the inherent coolness; it’s relaxed yet elevated. There is an intention to it that you don’t quite get from a plaid shacket or classic denim. It’s a little bit of a sartorial surprise – that “unexpected red theory” strikes again.
