The Handbook’s Contributing Fashion & Lifestyle Editor, Astrid Carter, scrolled every new in at Zara this week, so you don’t have to. Here’s what she picked…
If there is one high street store tempting me to part with my hard-earned cash this week, it’s Zara. The Spanish behemoth is in full summer mode, bringing fluid fabrics, bohemian embroidery, relaxed denim, and California girl cool to the table. Scroll to shop my top 22 plus how I’d be styling them this season.
Freshen up your denim for summer with these fashion girl patchwork jeans. I’ll be wearing slouchy and low with a vintage tee and flip-flops. I’m also contemplating trading my oversized leather biker in for a roomy denim jacket for the warmer months – cinch in the waist with a power belt for a more elegant approach.
What to wear to a summer wedding if you don’t want to look like everyone else? Mille feuille layers of pink fringing of course.
Whenever spring comes around I immediately look to a more delicate, pretty colour palette. Bringing that and one of the season’s hottest trends, Tenniscore, together – made even bigger by the launch of Zendaya‘s tennis coach movie, Challengers, – I am loving this sweet sequin-covered tennis dress. Wear in the day with an oversized bomber and a pair of colourful Gazelles.
For something a little more covered, Zara’s blush pink organza midi skirt belies its high street price tag. I’d style up with leather flat sandals and a simple ribbed vest or soft cardigan for a grown-up approach to boho – very Chloé SS24. Their blouse with embroidered detailing and tasselled ties are very much giving Kate Moss at Glastonbury paired with cut-off jeans and plenty of accessories.
Zara’s beaded bib shirt has all the makings of a timeless classic. Pair with slouchy pleat-front trousers and loafers for the office or leather trousers and heels after hours.
There are plenty of pieces that make me want to book a holiday with immediate effect. First up, the white mini lace shorts to wear with swimsuits and sandy toes. As well as their chocolate brown (one of my favourite trends of the season) and white striped trousers which I’ll be wearing just about everywhere, from brunch dates to summer festivals. And to finish off… it’s no secret I’m a big fan of the humble neckerchief and Zara has two beauties – a pink and red print and a very Parisian-feeling silk number – to add to ponytails, T-shirts and denim shirts all summer long.
I’m a bit of a sucker for a back-print T-shirt and this collab brings art from inside Madrid’s iconic Prado msueum and adds them to tongue-in-cheek slogan tees. Love.
From wavey-legged sunnies to vintage-look basket box bags to a very elegant off-white mule, Zara has plenty of finishing touches to add finesse to many a summer look. I’d wear the three of them all together with high-waist denim and a striped shirt for a French girl feel.
If, like me, you like even your best evening looks to look a little dishevelled and not too polished, this fluid blazer, dotted with generously sized sequins is a winner. Pair with menswear-inspired slacks and a silk cami.
If there’s one thing Zara always does well it’s OTT accessories. Case in point, a plump leopard print bow to add to half up/half down hairstyles and these unashamedly impractical statement earrings.
