The Best New TV On Streaming This Month

Need a new TV obsession to curl up to now that the evenings are getting longer? Luckily, October has plenty of big new TV shows to get lost in, from the ambitious East of Eden starring Florence Pugh to the third season of Nobody Wants This and a new series of The Celebrity Traitors. Here’s everything you need to watch:
East of Eden

One of our most anticipated shows, John Steinbeck’s classic novel East of Eden is being brought to the screen in a new seven-part adaptation starring Florence Pugh. She plays Cathy Ames, a fiercely independent and deeply complicated woman whose life becomes intertwined with brothers Adam and Charles Trask, played by Poor Things’ Christopher Abbott and Challengers’ Mike Faist. Set in early 20th-century California, the series explores the darker side of the American dream and, like Steinbeck’s noveL, spans multiple generations of the Trask and Hamilton families. It’s gotten plenty of buzz, thanks to Pugh being the lead, and East of Eden has shot to popularity on BookTok.

Carrie

Stephen King’s iconic Carrie is getting a new adaptation on Amazon Prime, entrusting The Haunting of Hill House creator Mike Flanagan to put his own spin on the story. Following several previous screen versions, Summer H. Howell stars as Carrie White, a bullied teenager whose sheltered upbringing and intensely religious mother, Margaret (Samantha Sloyan), have left her struggling to fit into high school. When her father dies, Carrie is forced further into the outside world, where bullying, social-media cruelty and the emergence of her telekinetic abilities begin to collide. It promises to be an updated version of the well-known horror story, fitting into a 2026 setting. Matthew Lillard, Siena Agudong, Alison Thornton and Amber Midthunder also star.
